I was hoping someone here with TCL experience might be able to confirm if these deals are worth it.

49C2US

$877 at Smiths City and $887 at JBHifi

55P6US

$1699 at Smiths City

From reading though this thread it looks like jb have had sales in the past on the other old models and sold out of all of them, such as the 55C2. The P6 is the 2018 model so it seems odd it is on sale already.

Under $1000 seems like a great deal for this TV, but if I wait will I get this kind of deal on P6 near the end of the year? Is getting the newer Android release on P6 worth it?

Also anyone ever gotten Prime Video working on a TCL Android TV? Would considering waiting for a Sony to come on sale to get Prime Video support as this is currently the one thing I need to plug a computer into my TV for. Currently I use a chromecast for Plex and Netflix.

I have just this week purchased a TCL 65" X2 QLED TV.

The picture is very nice and I am quite happy considering the price, but I seem to be having an issue with the Judder correction not staying off.

Every time the input changes, e.g. starting a movie in 24p (causing a refresh rate change), I get that horrible 'soap opera effect', I then have to go into the motion settings and toggle the judder reduction slider to 1 then back to 0 to get rid of it. The setting stays on 0 but the effect is still there unless you toggle it on then off again.

Has anyone else noticed this and managed to resolve it, maybe there is something I am missing?

if they sell here a 75" cheapo with faster cpu/gpu and 1Gbps LAN that would be good. can't stream large files nor does it play extremely high bitrate stuff from hdd

Pinched this from the Whirlpool AU forums, and may not be the same for your TV, but in response to somebody else asking how to remove soap opera effect on their TCL TV:

"I have the same telle, very happy with it but did have to spend some time tweaking settings to get the picture I wanted & yeah, the manual sucks. The option you are looking for is under advanced settings – Led Motion Clarity. Maybe also try fiddling with the judder reduction as well.

Note that some of the picture settings are not available depending on the picture source eg when watching Foxtel, all the picture settings are available but if I switch source to Kodi, then most picture settings do not show in menu. No idea what that's about."

Yeah those are the settings I am referring to. I can turn it off just fine, but when the input changes the effect is back despite the setting being off. I have to go back into the settings and move the judder reduction from 0 to 1 then back to 0 again. Very frustrating.

Just (1 week back) bought a 55C2US from Smiths City Invercargill for $1147,

I think it's brilliant for the price, considering the picture looks as good as TVs that are two and three times as expensive.

My only beef is that it's a 'smart' TV.

Call me old-fashioned but I'd rather my TV didn't have a mind of its own.

I was wondering about chopping off the LAN. Stopping updates and all that. Nougat doesn't seem to be getting good raps.

BTW, does anyone know where to find 1) Android version and 2) Current Firmware version?

I've tried the Contrast\9375 thing but that doesn't seem to have that info.

On my X2...

Android version: Home (Android TV) > Settings > About (mine shows 7.0)

Firmware: TV settings > Picture > Advanced settings > with contrast highlighted enter ‘9735’
SW NO is the firmware (mine ends in V364) for firmware 364.

Hey, thanks for that. I thought mine was Android 6 but it shows 7.0 in the same place as yours, so I guess it's Nougat.

Cheers

I have bought a Chinese clone tablet where everything listed on the "About" screen was falsified - every detail from android version to screen resolution to RAM to storage capacity.

So it may or may not be 7 :)

I guess that's always possible. But the TCL brand of TV, while not yet familiar to NZ buyers, is a very reputable and popular marque in other countries. It's up there with Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and Hisense (another Asian giant that is relatively unknown in this country).
