HALLOWEEN H2O: 20 YEARS LATER (1998)

This summer, terror won't be taking a vacation.

After faking her death and changing her name to evade the murderous Michael Myers, Laurie Strode, now a teacher at a Southern California private school, is again targeted by her nemesis. Most of the school goes away on a trip, but her son John stays behind along with his girlfriend and a couple of other kids.

John is now the age that Laurie was when Michael first attacked her friends, and she is scared and seemingly over-protective. But her fears are proven right when Michael returns to town, stalking first the teens and then Laurie herself.

WARNING!

Reports are flowing in that Umbrella's RAZORBACK 4K Ultra HD is not HDR10, just plain 4K SDR, and a poor transfer at that. US buyers are complaining that both the 4K and Blu-ray are Region B locked. Umbrella are supposedly gonna fix it and have a disc exchange program in September. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the movie is 4K SDR.

I will remove it from the weekly schedule next Thursday.

I've checked other upcoming 4K releases, The Last Wave and Possession, and it appears that they both are 4K SDR. I will remove these titles also.

I will not be posting any more Umbrella releases in future.

For those of you who would still be interested in their releases, here is the link to their website. Umbrella Entertainment

the 4K [is] Region B locked.

I thought region codes weren't a thing with UHD discs.

Not supposed to be. Seems like a right cock up on Umbrella's behalf.

Here is a section of AV Forums UK Review.

Note: this Australian release includes a 4K UHD disc and a 1080p disc, both of which are region B locked. Umbrella have announced a replacement programme to provide a region-free UHD disc, with new discs expected sometime in September.

Shot anamorphically on 35mm stock with Panavision cameras and lenses, the film has apparently been given a 4K restoration and brought to 4K UHD blu-ray for the first time by Australian boutique label Umbrella. There’s no mention of what this restoration entailed but that forms the basis of the hugely disappointing and strange 3840 x 2160p resolution image on this disc, framed in the theatrically correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio that also utilises 10-bit video depth, no WCG or HDR of any kind (SDR BT709 only), and has been encoded using the HEVC/H.265 video codec.

Whilst it must be remembered that Umbrella are working on a replacement disc already for this, so far all we know is that this is to address the accidental region locking of the 4K disc. What we don’t know if it will address are the countless other issues that plague the disc, making it one of the very worst 4K releases I’ve sadly ever seen.

Happily we don't have to rely on Sanity for some October 4K Ultra HD releases. Mighty Ape have them up for pre-order now. JBNZ will hopefully follow suit.

October 11th - Mighty Ape NZ [$29.99 each]

HALLOWEEN H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

U-571: Classics Remastered (2000)

SCREAM 3 (2000)

THE WICKER MAN: Classics Remastered (1973)

THE OTHERS: Classics Remastered (2001)

GHOST DOG: The Way of the Samurai Classics Remastered (1999)

CUTTHROAT ISLAND: Classics Remastered (1995)

THE PIANIST Classics Remastered (2002)

Just some information on the Umbrella "4K Ultra HD" upcoming NZ releases of Razorback, The Last Wave and possibly Possession. These films are all HEVC/H.265 2160p Standard Definition Range (SDR), with no Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) which makes it basically an upscaled Blu-ray without the advantages that HDR10 brings to the table. I believe that a 4K Disc release should have the minimum of HDR10 on board. Their upcoming release of Talk To Me will be a Dolby Vision/HDR10 disc, so I will add it to the schedule.

CROSS OF IRON: Classics Remastered (1977)

1943: The German army is retreating, pounded on all sides by the Russian onslaught. The only men who survive are those who revel in war and destruction – like Sergeant Steiner. And men who won't risk their necks for anything – like Captain Stransky. Stransky is new to the ugliness of the front-line battle, but determined to win himself some glory before he returns home. The one thing he wants above all is the supreme symbol of bravery, the Iron Cross. And he wants Steiner to win it for him – and get blown apart while doing so. But Steiner isn't known as a rebel for nothing. Stransky's determination to obtain that coveted emblem of bravery at whatever cost is the background to Sam Peckinpah's gripping story of men living at extremes and fighting for their lives.

I've just been browsing the JBAU website, and I noticed that the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse SteelBook is not available for pre-order anymore. JBNZ still have it available, so it must have sold out in OZ.

I found a better pic of it from Scanavo's Facebook page. Its a Best Buy US Exclusive as well.

Because Disney pulled the plug on physical media in Australasia and several other territories, I thought that maybe they were going to wind down in other countries, finally relying on their Disney Plus streaming service, and digital sales from other streaming services. But no! Disney have just announced a slew of 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray SteelBook Collector's Editions in the USA, of some of their most popular Disney Plus series. As usual the discs will be HDR10/Dolby Atmos (no Dolby Vision).

Here is the list of titles:

September 26th:

LOKI: The Complete First Season

October 03rd:

PREY - 6-Time Emmy Nominated "Predator" Movie

November 28th:

WANDAVISION: The Complete Series

December 12th:

THE MANDALORIAN: The Complete First Season

THE MANDALORIAN: The Complete Second Season

Added to this news is the fact that all releases will be on 100gb discs. The first time that Disney have given their 4K products room to "breathe". All of their previous releases have been on 66gb discs.

There is a footnote on the Source site that says these releases will also be available on certain International markets, to be determined.

SOURCE: Disney Plus Series

SOURCE: Prey

Like you I was pretty baffled by this announcement, and it tends to point to Disney still believing there is a buck to be made from physical media,

After I have posted CROSS OF IRON: Classics Remastered as having 2-Discs, which it also states on the updated cover. It seems that it may only be a 4K Ultra HD disc in the case.

Information on new releases is like hen's teeth... hard to find. ๐Ÿคจ

One thing that we can be sure of, is that all releases in this thread will have at least one 4K Ultra HD disc included ๐Ÿ˜
