I guess that's always possible. But the TCL brand of TV, while not yet familiar to NZ buyers, is a very reputable and popular marque in other countries. It's up there with Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and Hisense (another Asian giant that is relatively unknown in this country).

Mind you, I have no complaints about my TV other than it could have a better CPU/GPU and 1Gbps LAN.

I'm getting to the point where I will be reporting them to Fair Go as they are no longer replying to my support.

I've had the issue with the CEC not working since I bought the TV in December. They don't seem to understand the problem but say they are looking at it, then offer me a software update that according to the change log, does not include my fix, and sure enough does not resolve it.

Since the last update a new problem has arisen, my voice remote no longer recognises voice, and needs syncing every other day. It also runs really slow if I watch netflix, then youtube, then try and watch something through the media centre. I have to restart the TV.

Whilst they had been actively responding to me, and atleast providing some sort of support, albeit not fixing my issue, the fact they have not responded to me in a month, despite 3 attempts at contacting them, is cause for concern.

JBhifi have advised that I get TCL to resolve it under warranty, though I could argue that my contract is with Jbhifi, but I am at the stage now where I want TCL to replace the TV, so I will continue with them until I am satisfied.

That's a bit iffy.

It's like you buy a car and the stereo won't pair with your phone and there's nothing they can do.

I don't demand every minor feature works on everything i buy. There was some pretty expensive Apple iPad that i bought, and the Apple sd card reader won't read my sd card. The iPad also refuses to connect to one of computers, and randomly disconnects from my other computer.

Does anyone know if the TCL TVs will receive upgrades to Android TV 8.0 / Oreo?

I'm in the market for another 55" TV and TCL is an option I'm considering - although having to side-load Lightbox is off-putting.

they did put updates out for Android TV 7.0, so i would think there's a good chance they will do the same for 8.0

Its not really the same though is it? A cars purpose is to get you from A to B, offering bluetooth connectivity is a bonus system that has no impact on the engine or its ability to get you from A to B.

A TV is part of an entertainment system, if it is advertised as having CEC, or some other feature that enhances existing (and previously working) systems, then it is expected to work. It worked with an old Samsung, a panasonic, even a cheap not smart but large screen JVC. The TCL is the latest and greatest tech(there or thereabouts), so a standard feature of HDMI should work with a 2 year old Panasonic Home Theatre system.

The fact no one else is saying it does not work for them suggests it might be a problem with my TV, so demanding a replacement is not unreasonable, in fact, its not my right.

While it may be part of an entertainment system, it's main job is to produce a picture. And as you said, it is only a part of it. What I'm saying is how is a tech going to guarantee that anything and everything will connect to it? CEC isn't a chip you can put a multimeter on it to test is it?

Personally, I like watching movies with sound, and I know its not a chip, its part of the HDMI feature set. The fact it works for power down, but not power up suggests it is a software issue by TCL.

Besides, don't tell me what I can and can't be pissed off about, I bought this TV for its size, android, 4k and CEC, if a TV in 2018 can't do CEC then its a glaring fault that needs to be rectified. It is not too much to expect a feature to work that should. I don't care about your comparison with Apple cos I l wouldn't touch any apple product in the first place, but if in a similar position I would want it fixed/replaced if it was a problem that did not have a reasonable work around. If I buy a TV with an advertised feature set and it doesn't all work, then they shouldn't be advertising that feature. Sales of Goods Act!

If you have lived long enough you will realise that nobody can tell you when, how long, how intensely, at what, or to whom to be pissed off. I'm not sure why you are making these statements. Good luck.

That's an odd one. Try the Whirlpool link in the above post. TCL experts there :-)
