adamj: My understanding was that the second cable was for the new satellite that Sky may be using when it is commissioned next year. There is no need for a second cable for the same satellite

I happened to have an electricican here altering my wiring when the Sky HDi installers came. They said that I may as well get the electrician to run the extra RF cable then, as he was unsure how much SKY would charge to do it sometime in the future, but it was likely to be more then getting the guy to do it now. I did it, but I wonder how they could charge for something it should do out of the box?

Thats interesting, my installer said sky would upgrade the cabling free of charge when the time came....

Oh, and another thing -- we used to be able to watch SkyTV on a TV in another room -- provided the decoder (in the originating room) was tuned to the channel we wanted to watch. This worked well when we had a family dinner party and the guests were able to watch the Olympics as they moved between two rooms. Now that facility, with HDi has gone.

So going forwards also involves going a bit backwards?

I'm sure someone can make $en$e of this !!

My father in-law also used to run coax from the old MySky to two other rooms. The other week I got him to question Sky that they have removed this feature and not informed him at both time of signup nor installation. The AV Modulator is now on order and will be supplied for free once they are in stock.

As well as lock ups and everything else mentioned in this thread I've also had the HDI simply just not record series linked programmes. It doesn't lock up or anything, just doesn't record them sometimes. It's the news. Records the days either side OK without any changes. Very Weird.

We have had problems with My Skt HDMI locking, freezing during playback, not responding to the remote either during playback or live tv etc.

2 boxes later & numerous phonecalls to Sky customer services and I was told last night that it was energy saving bulbs in the house- being used near the sky box which has causied the problem. We have removed the lounge lamp and so far all is working as it should. Anyone else tried this, been told this or knows why energy saving bulbs in a lamp would screw up a mysky hdmi box?

We have these issues but do not use Energy Savers. We have halogen downlights

Yes, I've had that problem too - the box is unresponsive to the remote if you are using Energy Saving or Halogen bulbs. The solution is ironically the same as when the box is TOO responsive - masking tape over the remote sensor on the box. Infrared gets through it no problem (especially those Logitech Harmonies, which pretty much blast infrared signal!) but the bulb light can't, which gets back that responsiveness.

Multiroom setup with energy saving lightbulbs in both rooms. Multiple lockups/freezes, missed recordings etc in one room and only one lockup and one missed recording in the the other room. Energy saving light bulbs may be a contributing factor but are not the only factor.

For the first time last night the Skybox responded to standby button on the remote when it would not respond to anything else. I was recording two channels and wathing a recorded programme at the same time. Did not lose either of the two programmes that I was recording. YES (in very large letters).

The fact that we are now 13 pages into this thread and the same errors keep coming up again and again is cause for concern.

My own HDi unit has also had its fair share of lock-ups and often frustratingly so when I least expect it to do so such as simply trying to change a channel.

My hope is that the forthcoming firmware upgrade will not only unlock the other two tuners but will also address these on going crashes we all seem to be experiencing.

I heard to stop the lockup issues you had to make sure the HDI Unit was facing North and stand on one leg and touch your nose while watching it.

Hi there

As to your MySky hardware freezes, we had this as well. The STB froze 4 times after the Sky Installer left and then twice a day for the last few weeks!
Last week we had the balun (LNB) replaced on the dish. It was an older style single balun (circular), about 5 years old, now replaced with a double balun, (toilet paper roll with rounded ends) the newer type. This has fixed our issues. (i imagine it has larger throughput)

As suggested by the earlier thread.

First night bug free, no freeze ups, crashes, pauses, problems with the remote. All energy saving bulbs were turned on and arranged near to the sky box. The neighbours were worried with what I was up to.

One change- jumbo silver masking tape cut into a small 1cm square and stuck to the infra red remote sensor on the front of the box.

Remote still works fine through the masking tape.

Not pretty but seems to work, I'm off now to buy shares in masking tape companies, sky are going to need a lot of masking tape to fix the MYSKYHDMI.

Lot's of comments about 'heat' in this forum. Anyone know if Sky are doing anything about it?

I am on my THIRD HDi box in 2 weeks. On the first day I walked in the house and asked what was burning. It was that hot and stank so much. Has warped my (well ventilated) cabinet. It was on standby at the time. Technician said it shouldn't be like that (funny that) and happliy swapped the box.

Second box only slightly better. Third box the same.

Heat issue is about the same either when 'on' or in 'standby'. Actually, I think the only difference between the two modes is the colour of the button (disk certainly spinning in both modes). Can't be good for longivity, nor did I buy it to heat my house. Surely the disk should go to standby too??

Also have another issue where the TV (Toshiba 32" LCD) momentarily loses signal every 5 minutes (approx) when viewing via HD. No problem when using SD/Scart setup. HDMI lead was replaced with each decoder replacement. No better. Have tried all signal combinations. Does it with live of playback (nor associated with recording since if you rewind/replay it doesn't do it at the same spot). Same problem with all 3 decoders. Could this be compatibility quirk with the TV (though the book states it supports the protocol quoted by Sky)?

Getting close to pulling the pin on the whole thing.
