Direct to Samsung?
An interesting journey indeed, keep us informed.
Actually... I'll add this to your ammunition.
The Warehouse Group went and took some property / staff when Good Guys exited NZ, and on the below website they note that Noel Leeming will look after any 'in warranty' issues. I'd start there with an out of warranty approach under CGA.

indeed an interesting journey.
going to give them a call at 1030am.
Will be interesting to see if they take ownership of this issue, its quite rare in nz for people/company to take ownership of faults/issues/wrong doing.... is this a kiwi thing?
Capacitors failing is a massive issue with electronics. Frustrating that it's still going on today.
The silly thing is it's usually $4 worth of parts from Jaycar to fix. It gets more complicated when service centres replace a whole board, but fundamentally this should definitely be covered under warranty.
Like real estate agents getting your listing by saying they can sell it for a huge price, and then gradually wearing you down to a lower price that will actually sell, we're seeing the same thing with the expected life of appliances. Washing machines, sandwich presses, you name it, all used to last for 20 years, but now 5 years is a long time and 10 years is incredible. We got handed an old kitchen bakers mixer from a grand parent recently, that was still going strong after 40 years. I agree it's a stupid business model, as your customers will never need to come back, but they really don't make things like they used to, but we shouldn't let them get away with that either.
UPDATE :
Phoned good guys, they referred me to Samsung.
Phoned Samsung,Customer service lady gave me the "additional charges may apply, blah blah blah", told them no...covered by the consumers act blah blah.
So anyway, a service rep will be arriving in the next 2 days or something like that.
Still wondering if they going to do the " improper use, now you pay us " blah blah
and Yes capacitors in TV's are shocking, seems like its not only Samsung tho.
I reckon you'll be fine. They will replace the board/capacitors and will be as good as new. No charge to you - don't know how they can claim improper use (unless you have it in a commercial setting, on 24/7).
just got a call from samsung, impressed. they want to send an "inspector" over.....to see if the tv hasnt been tampered with... interesting.
quite impressed on the phonecall followup tho!!!!
inspected back of the tv and the screws look dodge! worried now lol.
now i need to find the receipt from 3yrs-4yrs ago...without this....this would all be pointless.....this should be fun :)
God Guys AU should be able to provide a copy of the Proof of Purchase OP...
I had an issue with an out of warranty plasma tv a few years ago, it was a bit of an effort to get the ball rolling but once it got momentum Samsungs approach was impeccable, they replaced it with a brand new TV a week later of which they even gave me a couple of model options
I had a power problem with a Samsung TV a while ago (was out of warranty but probably less than three years old) and they sent someone around, who took it away, and brought it back fixed, at no cost, two days later, so hopefully you won't have any problems...
BinaryLimited: inspected back of the tv and the screws look dodge!
What do you mean by that though?

Yeah, that line along sounds dodgy...
UPATE
Managed to find the receipt,Samsung sent their people, replaced the power unit for free.TV wasnt in warranty either,Amazed!!!
Quick and easy process. Now I got a spare Samsung 59inch plasma laying around. Couldn't wait, landed up buying a new Samsung.
sxz: in 2009 a fridge-freezer was ruled not to be of acceptable quality when its compressor pump failed after seven years - a full refund was given.
Hmmmm we had this situation about 5 years ago, and were told when I rang the Consumer Affairs ministry that they deemed 7 years to be good enough and we were out of luck. Was not impressed at the time! Will know next time to stick to my guns.
