robbyp: I think LEDs have quitre a few advantages over plasma

I've not found many advantages of LCD/LED that relate to how the TV performs - ie how well it displays moving pictures / deals with the full brightness range from full black to full white.

Most benefits tend to be along the lines of:

It uses less power
It is lighter
It is thinner

These are all accurate, but how important are they?
It is hard to compare power accurately though as plasma consumption varies but LCD is fairly constant.

ie do you buy a TV to look at switched off, using no power that way, and light so you can move it around often easily?.....

I liked the look of the LCD picture better than plasma too. It's personal taste.

You can get local dimming LED screen. which deal with brightness better. Peronally I don't see moving pictures a problem on good quality LED TVs, like you could on the olders LCDs of a few years ago. It does depend on the panel though that is being use, some of the those cheap no name ones can be poor.

Peronsally I find the picture on an LED screen easier on the eyes, sharper and just better overall. Obviously that is personal taste. But I would be happy with either, but have a edge towards LEDs, bcuase they are better in all types of rooms. Plama aren't generally as bright as LEDs so aren't as easy to see in a very  brightly lit room .

Conversely... LED's are bright, so are uncomfortable to watch in darkly lit rooms...
And at the same time, the higher the brightness, the more washed out the blacks will be.

Chose a panel that will work for the home you live in now. My plasma has a filter on the screen that allows it to deals with reflections very well. Sure, if the sun is shining 'directly' onto the screen, I'll need to close the curtains. If I lived in a house with no curtains at all, I'd have gone for an LED that has a matte finish. Probably an LED from LG.

Therk: Yeah the ST30 looks good, do you think its worth paying a few hundred more for the GT version?

Yes, it is worth getting the P50GT30Z in preference to the P50ST30Z. There is no vast difference between the two but it is a modest difference in price for a better television. The P50GT30Z is available for $2399 at the time of writing.

Also, there is no major issues with plasmas anymore right? Permanent burn in scares me a little >_<
It varies depending on the model but overall it is less of a problem than it used to be. It is mostly only a problem if the TV is displaying static material over some hours.

Oh and the 32" LCD will mostly be used to watch TV, and for a little bit of gaming.

Thanks for the reply :)

Look for something full HD and with a low MS response time for the gaming. Make sure it can have overscan turned off. 50Hz on LCDs is jerky so make sure it supports 100Hz or higher.

Remember to turn overscan off on your plasma too. TVs are never good when left on defaults.

How are you finding it? I bought my one online tonight and am yet to pick it up.

Hope its a decent upgrade over my 720p LG of two years. USB function was a big reason for my purchase.
