I am assuming that they are looking for both D1H&V and D3H, I dont think there is any usefull Vpol planned for D3, and naturally there is plenty of Vpol split antenna on D1.

I sure hope you are kidding. What will happen for me and the thousands of other Sky subscribers in MDUs? No HDi?
My install is booked for the 9th of August, so I guess I will find out then...

My understanding (and I could be wrong as I dont work for sky) is that they will be using a stacker (frequency multiplexer) for single line MDU setups, so I dont think you have too much to worry about there. I guess depending on what price the stacker ends up costing we may see some used in more complex single dwellings aswell.

Clevedon: I kinda think your mental as well getting Sky HD with no HD TV either, you might as well get regular MySky and upgrade later - at a very small upgrade cost. There are no "further delays", since you only booked yesterday thats why you are at the end of the queue. We booked ours in June and install date is 4th August, first installs start 29th July confirmed just as they said. We didn't have a big song and dance when we booked and got MySky when that was first announed a couple of years ago. Book early and don't muck around, if you want something like this - was announced nearly two months ago, don't complain that you can't get it Today. You snooze you lose.

Don't think regular MySky is available at $15/month? Even if it were, why would I get an old model? I have no problem waiting till September, just wish I didn't have to ;) I DO however know 2 people that ordered MySky1 when it was first announced and waited over 4 months before it was installed.

Yes the new MySkyHDi will store more than the original MySky. I understand 90 minutes SD rather than 60 minutes, some of the extra space dedicated to on demand movies?. After having lost all when 1st MySky died anything I want to keep goes to another PVR. I am assuming that the output, on the MySkyHDi, from the VCR SCART will be SD over composite but that will be better than nothing.

I hope more than 90 minutes too...

Hope this is not fo topic but does anyone have any idea just how much data is collected by the satellite dish. I once considered the idea of recording the whole feed then feeding it through the Sky decoder so as to be able to watch two shows that had been shown at the same time (idea was pre MySky). Did not pursue the idea as I figured that even very large hard drives would be swamped very quickly.

Well its encrypted so thats a bit of an issue, but beyond that each mux has a post FEC (ie useable) bitrate of around 30Mb/s, currently Sky has 11muxs in use, and FreeView 2muxs, so in total around 400Mb/s.

Slight digression:
We live in Arrowtown, NZ, 18k or so from Queenstown. Digital Sky reception is excellent (but we could only get 1 and 2 fuzzily before SKY).

My Bravia TV is HD ready and gets an excellent picture (depending on the channel, of course). My SKY decoder is a silver\grey box, about 250mm x 50mm. I think it's a Pace unit, probably about 3 yrs old.

My question:

Am I getting any HD broadcasts here? How would I know if I was receiving HD?

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

No, you are not receiving HD broadcasts. You'd only receive HD on the new MySky HDi set top boxes.

What about the Freeview channels? To avoid complicated explanations I omitted to mention that I also have an el cheapo Aetna freeview decoder into which goes the dish lead, which is then looped into the Pace decoder.

BTW: I'm puzzled about one of SKY's new ads for the MySky. In one, there are two people arguing about whether they'll watch opera or a horror movie. Then a girl enters, perhaps the daughter, points the remote off-camera and says something to the effect of, "You can record both your shows while I watch netball".

Well OK. But everything I read on this thread tells me that the new stb will only offer TWO channels, not THREE as the ad implies??

Is this new ad series offering pulls from another country's version, where they offer 3 channels? It's a very slick production for a small market like ours.

FreeView DTH (Sat) will not for the near future be available in HD only SD. Only the DTT (terrestial) service will have HD on some channels. To get the Sky HD channels as sub says needs the new MySky HDi. So currently both your FTA Sat decoder and Sky/Pace decoder are only SD capable.

Same deal. The only way to receive HD from a satellite dish at the moment is with mysky HDi. Clouding the issue is that Freeview has two different mediums for transmission. Standard Definition only is transmitted is from the satellite for freeview. Freeview do transmit HD but only via terrestial (not off the satellite) so you need a DVB-T tuner box (T for terrestial) and a VHF aerial. You currently have a DVB-S box (it probably has a DVB-S logo on it somewhere).

There is option in future upgrade of the HDi box to record 3 channels.

There is option in future upgrade of the HDi box to record 3 channels.

The MySky HDI box has four tuners built in, but at launch only two will be available. I understand that a firmware upgrade will be delivered automatically sometime this year which will enable all four tuners, three for viewing/recording and one reserved for push content (i.e. on demand movies).
