Do you know how the firmware upgrade will be delivered? I doubt I will have my box connected to a phone line so will it be delivered over satelitte?

motogpnz: Next question, will SS1/SS2 SD actually go to 16:9 when the HD starts or will they stay at 4:3? And what about SS3? It's extremely annoying to say the least watching sports with pillar boxes at the moment. In fact I have stopped watching my sport of passion (MotoGP) on Sky and gone for the live internet stream because it is 16:9.

Question answered it appears: Watching SS1 right now the rugby is in full 16:9 while the league on SS2 is in 4:3 pillarboxed at their end. However SS3 is still 4:3 and is out of proportion with my TV and STB both set to display in widescreen.

I think they just push firmware upgrades down the satellite to all clients. I don't have a phone line connected either although I believe that MySky HDi customers will not be able to phone in for PPV content like SD can and will require a phone line connected.

All DVB firmware updates are carried over the primary carrier not the phone line, the box will sort itself out with or without a noticed period of action that would effect your enjoyment, if you get my drift.

Thanks to all who've commented on my original question about MySky, 12 posts back.

But I'm still puzzled about the MySky ad I described, that implies that MySky subscribers will be able to receive three channels. As I said, one pull of the ad shows two people, presumably a married couple, arguing over whether they'll watch an opera or a horror movie. Their daughter (presumably) flounces in and proclaims that they can BOTH receive their shows (and presumably record them) while she watches netball.

I'm aware that the new decoder has four inputs, of which 3 will be operative AT SOME FUTURE POINT, but I understand that only TWO will be available now, which will enable viewers to record TWO channels and watch ONE of them. Which is not what the ad depicts.

Someone here made the jocular observation that "maybe the netball was recorded". Yes, maybe it was. But at least three people have told me that they've seen a SKY ad that says that three channels are available for recording. So whatever the truth is, some people are being misled by this television commercial.

Which, as far as I'm aware, is illegal. In which case I think that the Advertising Standards Council need to be told about it. There's enough BS on TV as it is, without reputable companies deliberately trying to deceive their customers.

It confirms what was apparently common knowledge anyway. I don't think the Foxtel version has all tuners available either at this stage.

GeekIT dont confuse the number of connectors, or connected inputs with the number of programs that can be recorded and viewed at once, you will get youself confused.

The HDi has 4tuners, of which only 2 will be initially enabled, with the 3rd sometime after launch, I am presuming Sky will follow Foxtels approach and use the 4th for Ondemand (ie non realtime program download to disc) functions.

The HDi actually includes a multiswitch, as a result all 4 tuners can be fed what they require from only two feeds from a new LNB. As I understand it Sky will be rolling out a 4output LNB ofwhich each output can view either 156E or 160E and H&V on each, but only Hpol on each orbit location is going to be used. A third cable feed is been allowed for in the case of a multiroom situation. The multiswitch built into the HDi allows each tuner to select any transmission from any input port of the switch, as long as all required feeds (of which there are only two, Hpol from each orbit location) arrive at the HDi then all is fine.

I should point out (well as I understand it) that as of today and for some time (early next year) all Sky transmissions will continue from D1Hpol just as they have from sometime since. Therefore only one feed is required to allow all tuners to see any channel they wish. At some time in the future LNBs and cabling will be upgraded. Exactly how and what is still information only privey to Sky and their installers.

Because this was my point, that SKY are advertising something that isn't available.

Hi geekIT,

From what I understand it's the same as the current MySky unit, you can record two things at once and watch a third thing from the hdd that you had recorded earlier.

Sometime down the track they will enable the third tuner (so we keep hearing) which will allow us to record two and watch a third channel live :-)

what's stopping them from bringing in picture in picture with MySkyHD?

as a sports fan, the amount of time i've had to improvise to get this, i'd love to see it native in MySkyHDi. All the time there are two games on during a weekend, where i'd like to follow both. Classic example the other week when the Warriors were playing the same time as the All Blacks.

GeekIt, as paul says, the current MySky will only allow you to record two different channels at a time, and also let you replay any preveiously recorded material at the same time, ie there are two tuners, and one decoder, so the options pretty obvious. The HDi when first shipped will have the exact same functionality, although it does have 4tuners within, sometime after launch the 3rd tuner will be enabled, this means you can record upto 3 programs at once and view any of them as they go to disc or view previously recorded material. The 4th tuner as I understand it will be nailed up for Ondemand service.

Just a simple probably dumb question but, we currently have multi room with the original decoder in the lounge and the other downstairs , if I get MySky HD can I get the MYsky put downstairs where we had the second decoder put in or does it have to be where the original set up was done. I only ask as I have assumed that they are linked together. Cheers.
