clevedon:  Sky will eventually have all the free to air channels like they do now anyway.

Maybe they will. Maybe they won't.

Will Sky be running TV3's 1080i feed @ 10Mbps H.264 like it is now on terrestrial? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

clevedon: All i'm saying is the quality of programming on free to to air is crap - whether it is HD or not doesn't make any difference, still crap. If Sky is compressed more it is still HD and the range and quality of programming is?massively miles better, coupled with the PVR and all the other features on MY Sky HDi it leaves free to air for dead.

It doesnt matter if it is SD or HD, if it is heavily compressed you will still see artifacts, macro blocking etc on a highly compressed HD stream.

You still dont get it do you, free to air = RUBBISH programming, Sky = GREAT programming, and I guess you don't have MySky now, if you did I think you would change your mind, we have had it for two years and wouldn't be without it. Big new Panasonic 50PY800 hooked up to PS3/Blu ray now, MySky HDi install 4th August, birthday 5th - can't wait, can't come soon enough.

I get it now, so everything on free to air is rubbish and everything on Sky is great. Um ok then.

Settle down...

Firstly, I watch more TV3 than anything else. TV3 has some brilliant shows, more good shows than any other single channel on Sky's line up.

On Sky, I probably watch Discovery more than anything else. Also good material, but not in the same quantities as TV3 (And alot of repeats).

Thirdly, I havent got MySky to date as I have a DVD/HDD recorder that more than suits my recording needs. I am getting HDi more for the HD broadcasts, and the ability to record TV3 in HD than anything else.

Not in my opinion, you must love those adverts or the hassle of using another piece of equipment and remote to record and then race through all those adds. Sky wouldn't put all their top rating shows on one channel would they? Thats why they have so many channels to cater for so many different tastes. Free to air will never compete due to funding, never watch it and nothing they have on interests us at all.

Each to their own I guess. TV3 has CSI (x3), NCIS, Outrageous Fortune, House, Boston Legal..off the top of my head (All favourites of mine). Oh and it takes me about 3 seconds to skip an ad break, and I am perfectly happy with that. Sky has ad's too (Unless you are talking movies/sport). Does MySky automatically skip ads for you?

I didn't say Sky doesn't have adverts, I said YOU have to go through the hassle of a separate recorder to skip through adverts. Sky have a massive variety of programmes to watch ( and the Rugby live and widescreen - wooohooo ) not just stuck on one or two channels for all the favorites and with the convienience of the PVR, EPG etc, etc, etc. Roll on the 4th August.

We're booked for tomorrow. I am going to call Sky and make sure that the installer calls the right phone number, unlike when I had MySky 1 installed.

I'd much rather have Discovery HD and Natgeo HD than the movie channels first off.
