the mksy hdi and the original mysky have the same remote signal for one reason, it makes the crossover from each box much simpler- if you have the two decoders in the same place then you will have to make a rudimentry blocking device-a piece of cardbord or similar,lol,low tech but it works and put one snder on each decoder and position it so each on can operate individually. Theres always the high tech version that will encode each signal on a different frequency thus allowing you to control two decoders-one on the original signal and one on the converted one. With this method it is much easier to distinguish which is the HDi and which one is not. Not sure of the cost, but its more than a piece of cardboard,lol. These boxes are not generly designed to be side by side, in fact the percentage of people who have this setup is very low compared to those who have the decoders in different rooms. Sky techs will not do this though so you will have to go to a private technician to accomplish this. Hope this helps. :)
Total upgrade cost was $98 and I pay $50 above the standard rate (ie two $25 multiroom charges) and no hd ticket required
So if I have MySky & MySky HDi and wanted to upgrade the MySky to MySkyHDi as well sometime in the future, would I only have to pay another $49 without paying the $599 again?
I can't confirm the answer but I suspect that if you have paid $599 for two boxes then this would apply, however if you had only paid $599 for the original mysky and had this unit left in the house as a new multiroom when upgrading to HD I suspect they would want to charge you more money when you upgrade as the $50 upgrade fee effectively recognises that some of us already paid a large sum upfront - although if this is not the case it would be a cheap way to upgrade over time - maybe I will try it on in a few months on my mysky and see what happens (although would not be fully utilised on a sd plasma but a black unit would look nicer than silver!, and I would also say that the myskyhd is less stable than the old mysky at the moment)

How can it work if you're watching the bedroom TV (remote linked by IR ) and you want to replay/record to SD or HDi...not both.
lol,the cardboard was a joke...sort of and youve just spent all that money on the decoder and now you have to get a converter for the ir sender? Thats the best way to go, get a technician to convert the ir signal on one decoder so you can differentiate between decoders-depends on how much you want to spend. We have a saying in the installation industry-if you can imagine it we can probably do it...if you have bottomless pockets!!!lol.but in all seriousness theres ways and means around most situations and most private installers will be familiar with these issues. A little kiwi enginuity goes along way. Did you install your current ssytem? By what youre saying, proberbly not. No offence but you should consult who put your system in for advice.Sky have been helpful to most private techs as far as information goes.
Look: thanks for your thought but multiroom means we can access either Skybox from several places around the four-storied house at will, its an awesome facility at present. Now it seems its not gonna work as the box won't know where the IR signal is meant for. Seems a shame as Sky want to promote multiroom.

The issue of similar codes on My Sky and HDi is not an easy one to get around cheaply. Having such boxes distributed to all displays is a logical move though as you can do things like continue watching a recorded show from another TV ie you have access to all your content anywhere.
One compromise is to combine an HDi with a standard Sky box or use an HDi with a Freeview box to have access to more than one channel at a time.

Look: This is madness. What happens when you want to record on one stb but not the other? What if you've got multiroom setup with IR extenders and STB x2 in a central location? How will the remote know which STB to record to? My HDI coming next Wednesday...not sure if I want it with this problem. Any ideas for a workaround?
Not sure what IR extenders you are using, but one I had used in the past was fairly low powered (at the relay end where it sent to receiving device eg MySky). So long as there was a divider between devices, eg on separate shelves, card between them etc, the IR was not strong enough to bounce and effect other device.
Not sure if causing an issue for a larger population would be better in supporting the minority of users trying to put the same device in same location.
I have sky piped around the house and have bought 2 additional mysky remotes so we don't "lose" the one from the main room as we search the kids lounge for it. If they had changed the frequency/codes for HDi then my extra remotes would be useless, so I am glad they kept it the same. Thanks Sky, at least 1 happy customer.

Yeah, but if the signal is the same and it goes to both boxes, it makes no difference if there is a divider between the boxes. In IR it generally makes no difference having multiple emmiters anyway, it's when you have more than one receiver that you run into trouble.
A solution might be an IR router but that couldt get expensive. Having the boxes in the same room/closet isn't the issue either. It is having them in the same IR distribution system.
