Are you connected by HMDI? My understanding is that teletext is not supported in the HDMI standard.

kiwitrc: Teletext??? I gave up on that years ago, it is slow to update news, sports etc and you get much faster updates on the web. Its almost like it was run by a 9 to 5 govt department.

You don't seem to read either, refer to my earlier quotes. Either you haven't looked at it for years as you say or you don't have Fastext. Get back onto the thread with relevant replies that are informative about MySky HDi Bugs/Quirks or start a new one instead of bleating on about something you don't know about. Subject closed, it's my Birthday and I can't be bothered about this topic anymore.

Hi Baz. My parents (I am only 14) just bought the new Panasonic TH-50PY800 from Harvey Norman on the weekend and I was wondering what you think of it. Does the new technology featured in this model really give it a great picture? I would be interested in your opinion. They are wondering whether or not to get the offer of 12 months of free my sky hdi and I have turned to 'Geekzone' to find whether or not we should, from first appearances I see the technology is great but there are still some tethering problems.

Maybe time to buy yourself a new Macbook for birthday, either always on, or resuming takes less than 2 seconds to reconnect with wifi and up and browsing! Antivirus? whats a virus.

Hi Yatey,
Watching SD TV is "Very Good". Watching a DVD is "Excellent". If you want "Great" get a Freeview HD Reciever and/or MySkyHDi. If you want "Outstanding - Blow Me Outta This World" buy a Blu Ray player or Playstation3. Remember to use Digital Cables to connect all this external equipment where ever possible i.e HDMI. I plan very soon to purchase a Freeview HD set top box....followed by a MySkyHDi set top box. Sometime after this I'll look at a Blu Ray device....maybe the PS3. Regarding your question about this model's technology, I believe after months of searching and viewing HDTV's the latest Panasonic Plasma TH-PY800 in my opinion is the best in this price range and screen size as of August 4 2008. By Christmas it will probably be a different story as technology steam rolls ahead. The tethering problems you mention?.... Tell me more. I have yet to experience any bugs or problems from this monstrosity. Then again...after watching an old Phillips (29" screen and reducing) CRT TV for the past 5 years I doubt I'd notice anything but pure delight.

Many thanks, beer tastes mighty fine. New Laptop for work will be next on the list, our small business is due for a new one soon, current one is two years old, so due for an upgrade shortly, I shall take your advice onboard before I make my decision to what make and model I purchase. Cheers.

We are hopefully getting the Freeview HD with the promotion Panasonic was running with these models. We have an SD Freeview box at the moment and even on our 32" Sony CRT the V8 Supercars on Sunday afternoon looked great.
The tethering problems I was talking about was in regards to the My Sky HDI box, with people reporting massive amounts of heat being produced and having to reset their boxes. But I am sure that wont stop us from getting one, as I am a massive fan of the ABs and the NRL. (GO MANLY) :D :D

Just something I forgot to ask you about the Pansonic Plasma. Do think it produces a noticeable amount of heat?
I ask this is because I have read that Plasmas produce more heat compared to LCDs.

Yes I have noticed more heat than my old CRT TV but nothing substantial. I am told the Plasma's produce more heat than LCD's but both technology's can run at a temp up to 42 degrees. So again nothing to worry about. I look at it as a bonus in winter as it heats my lounge...LOL

At this moment I can't fault this HDTV. Regarding MySkyHDi....there does seem to be some bug issues by all reports here at geekzone but it'll be fine to watch the AB's and NRL in HD until a firmware update is released to fix recording playback lockup issues...if in fact there is a problem?

What software version do other users have in their HDi box at the moment. After early problems, I haven't had any lockups or other problems for a few days now, even a deliberate attempt to crash the box tonight by recording two programmes at the same time and then using 30x FF/REW on one of the programmes in live pause mode or on a previously recorded programme and flicking in and out of the planner/guide did nothing other than perform as instructed! Maybe there has been a patch issued already? How about other users?

My software version is 23.1.0.5.14 and operating system is C02P117. (You can retrieve this info by pressing active, then pressing 1 then 4 then 3.)

Hi folks. My first impressions after having My Sky HDi installed next to our existing My Sky box are...

- fast forward and rewind are very irratic. Watching the Rugby at 2x or even 6x (waiting for scrums,etc) was very smooth and a pleasure on My Sky - impossible with the HDi decoder.

- HOT! - as in temperature.

- unsure if having both decoders running of the same cable is a problem. We had recordings set for both decoders and they failed. With 2 decoders on the same cable should we have access to 4 seperate tuners (ie 2 each)?
