They are indeed.

I purchased direct from Dan given MrSpeakers is a fairly small business, but Addicted to Audio do carry their range also. Note that if you do not require a closed can I find the Ether open to be the better of the two Ethers.

Did you go with the DUM cables? Love that cable name. I was browsing the ether c thread on head-fi in the early am's (couldn't sleep) and didn't find anyone running a pair through a burson conductor, not really keen on buying a new amp/dac any time soon.

Yeah, I have the DUM cables, the newer one that comes with the Ether and Ether C is nicer than the older one, soft flexible sleeving compared to the less flexible material on the older one. The Conductor should be fine with the C.

Speaking of the C, got my tuning kit today...

Have you had a chance to try the tuning kit? I'm a bit dubious as to how felt can change things that much

I have LCD2 in Wellington, my closed cans are Audio Technica A900s. I don't like the A900X because of the weak springs in the head band, they slide down my slightly smaller than average head. I got mine second hand, they don't make A900 any more, and my originals were stolen.

Will try it tonight. All its doing is attenuating the treble a bit, that'll subtly change how the whole tonal balance is appreciated though. Should make the bass have a bit more presence, hopefully it doesn't shelve the treble too much for my tastes in the process.

Just got my Head Fi rig to " Vaguely Sensible Nirvana" status. Metrum Acoustics Octave Mk II NOS DAC and Metrum Acoustics Aurix amp, driving Mr Speakers Alpha Dogs.

Slight issue to be resolved with the DAC - the USB units they were using until very recently do not play nice with El Capitan and a driver solution is awaited. I can replace the USB module with the newer one but that is EUR150 plus shipping etc. So I am awaiting an SPDIF cable that has a 3.5mm SPDIF on one end (for the iMac) and a normal one on the other (for the Octave). If you plug in the USB, the Mac just does not recognise it as being there at all.

At the moment therefore I have only the Aurix running with a normal 3.5mm headphone plug to RCA cable. Hardly the best but at least I can play a bit! The SPDIF cable won't be here until Monday.

Sound is good right now but I am itching to know what the DAC will do.

Just to prepare my wallet, how much of an investment are you in for the above approximately? I've been looking at the Mr Speakers Ether closed back cans >.<

The DAC and amp about $2750 and the headphones about $800.

The good/bad thing is that the electronics will comfortably accommodate headphones costing a lot more without not being 'enough'...!

Cool. I get the good/bad thing. It gives you the opportunity to upgrade the cans...dangerous! I've got a DAC and Headphone Amp coming that are in a similar price range. I hope I'm as blown away as you are!

I've had the units burning in for about 10 hours a day (and on standby overnight) and it just keeps getting better...!

I'm not sure whether I have DUM cables on my Alpha Dogs, but man those headphones are awesome. So comfortable - I have never, ever, had headphones I could wear for 4 hours and more without needing some kind of break. They are amazingly comfortable and work very well with the amp and DAC. They are not bass head friendly though - if you like a bass heavy presentation then they are not the ones for you. There is bass - fast, accurate and musical - but there is not head splitting thump bass!

Have so far tried the white pads, they make a noticeable difference in fact. Attenuating the treble a bit relative to the bass and mids changes the tonal balance, for the better for my tastes I think. Still evaluating.

Tempted, but I wasn't overly impressed with the Fostex TH900's - the probably didn't pair well with the burson conductor

I have a friend in the USA, for the time Black Friday etc is happening. Anyone know of any KILLER headphones that are on an amazing special worth grabbing whilst he is there to save on freight?
