So who would be willing to pay an extra NZ$ 7-8 on top of a standard Sky subscription?

Customers received a letter from Sky last month, about a subscription increase of $1.50 per/mth.
And what do we get? CNBC, Vibe and Fashion TV!

I'd much rather see a Comedy Channel added to Sky's lineup. Seems like the most glaringly obvious hole in the genre line-up to me. More so than sci-fi anyhow.

A comedy channel is not a bad idea; but they would have to ensure that there was a good mix o britsh and american comedy....and maybe some other countries as well....

But most importantly is the scifi channel

Petition details were printed in today's issue of The Press, in the technology/TV section ("The Box"). Hopefully that will spread the word a little further, around the South Island at least.

Another good reason for a SciFi channel is a listing in this weeks TV Guide  with CH3 showing Eureka at 1.00PM sat afternoon. This is a light hearted SciFi program that was on the US SciFi channel 2006 ~2007 .  It's  taken 2 years for the series to start here.  Thank goodness I downloaded it when it was on..

Oh Darn... I missed out Tuesday paper at work!

Anyhow, last night's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicle should receive quite a good vierership (i hope) which could be the sign to TVNZ that there's a good size population/viewers thirsty for SciFi... Anyone know where to get the viewership rating for tv programmes?

I saw the first 2 eps in January  and gave up after that.  I see that Fox has picked up the remainder of the first series as it only got as far as Ep8 before  it got cought in the writer strike..  If I remember I will try to watch eps 3~8 on CH2

This little update from May 13 NZ Herald.

"Sky wants the Sci-Fi channel too

Sky TV chief executive John Fellet may have a life-size cardboard cut-out of John Wayne standing in his office and a framed poster for Walk the Line, the biopic on Johnny Cash, but he's a confirmed Sci-Fi fan.

As such, he's fully in support of the petition that has been launched to bring the Sci-Fi channel to New Zealand (it now has nearly 1700 names).

Fellet says Sci-Fi channel has been on the agenda before when the network holds its regular beauty parade of prospective content providers during which it hears pitches for new channels from all over the world.

The issue to date is that the Sci-Fi Channel has been bundled with another channel Sky doesn't need. If Sky can get access to the Sci-FI Channel on its own, the chances of it coming to New Zealand are much greater. Negotiations continue, at least Sky now knows there's huge demand for the channel here and we know Fellet wants it too!"

That is awesome, but it makes me wonder why we haven't had it earlier, maybe to get the scifi channel you have to take some real s**tters along with it.

What really surprises me is the complete lack of Sky presence here in the forums. I know there are some Sky folks lurking the Home Theatre and Freeview forums, but we never had anything from the company - not a single acknowledgement that geeks do subscribe Sky and have a great deal of knowledge to help others and feedback to help the company...
