It would be great but I'm not sure they will have space on the feed. After all they are filling the airwaves up with super important channels like fashiontv!!!!

I wonder how many skinny new zealand models petitioned for that one

It would ne nice but i feel it it was done via Sky it would end up as the crappy one  that Foxtel  does in Australia.

Hell would freeze over before you saw the US SciFi Channel here..

This seems to be an annual topic (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=34&TopicId=13733).  According to the response I got from Sky some time back, SciFi would be a niche channel and therefore was not being thought of at the time.

NICHE!!!!!?????!!!111ZOMGDNSBBQWWWAGPDDRTINKYWINKYDIPSYLALAPO

Nowhere near as 'niche' than half the crud they have on their lineup!
I would pay for a good Sci-Fi channel (or set of thereof).

Actually you can get quite a bit of the Sci-fi channel streamed from http://www.hulu.com except it won't stream unless you have a US IP number.

Sorry I have no solution to the IP number issue, its is monday after all!

I like Joost, but at 300mb per hour.... kinda chews through my 1gb cap pretty quick :(
Also having a connection than runs faster than 2Mbps would also help cut back on buffering... but thats another story for another thread.

But yeah, Id be in for SciFi channel, not on Sky tho, Freeview please :D

The only reason sky think sci-fi is niche is that there hasnt been enough of us lobbying them.. Only a very small number of fans managed to get 3 to reverse their decision to cut Underbelly (which is fantastic viewing and in HD).. I'd be willing to wager that if enough Geeks banded together and made getting the sci-fi channel a real issue Sky would at least consider it.

Joost and Hulu are neat ideas but like most I'd rather use my already scarce data allowance for more useful stuff...

So what do you all reckon, should we get petition going? Would Geekzoners get behind it???

Give it a go and see how many responses you get.  You could try GoPetition - they're who hosted the DomPost anti-whaling petition.

I think you may be pi$$ing in a gale here my friend,

First you wont get a carbon copy of the scifi channel outside the US because of the limitations on programme distribution, ie the US run window will prevent you seeing Lost/other first run shows within days/weeks of the US run,

Second, the channels that Sky (NZ/Aus) put together here are basically just licensing the name off the original broadcaster and then filled with whatever stuff Sky can purchase off the studio shelves.

Third Sci-Fi veiwers in NZ and prob AUS, get SHAFTED on a regular basis, e.g. you can buy season 3 of BattleStar Galctica here on DVD, and as yet it has not appeared on broadcast TV at all, (Sky or otherwise) Season 2 was the same from memory,

I would happily get behind a petition, but I also agree wholeheatedly with wellygary - it just won't make a bean of difference IMHO. (Much as I would want it to).

Try it and see - be interesting to see what Skys reponse is anyway :)
Only takes a moment to click a few buttons on the petition :)

Yes I would support it. It's worth a shot because us 'niche' watchers get a raw deal here in NZ.
