Yeah. I keep thinking someone needs to do a dedicated headphone shop on Queen Street. A place with a really good selection of a broad range of headphones, DACs, etc. Then for customers that are well known etc a 'home-testing' programme could be done.

Problem is home testing followed by purchasing online from another place followed by a very expensive pair of headphones being worthless. That would have to be built into the margins and then the price is even more expensive!

Yup, it's a tough balancing act, though to be fair generally a store with a reasonable reputation would be able to get SIGNIFICANT discounts on demo stocks and turn those over every 3 months with a reasonable discount.

But yes there will always be people who will abuse the system.

Technically there's Mix Foundation - it's part of the Farmers building sort of... and they have some headphones, but probably not what you're after. Really, if you're after headphones in-store in Auckland it's Computer Lounge.

I agree the rent would be stupid but I was thinking of the traffic as a bonus. Computer Lounge does ok but it's not their focus, in fact it seems like they've moved away from it a bit. The store would need a very good selection of the low to mid-tier higher margin gear to be able to have the high-end stuff which is still high margin but would obviously be slower moving.

Of course that's just my little dreamland.

So I FINALLY finished my Crack Amp and Speedball upgrade. I am mightily happy. Obviously I don't have a double-blind test and it's quite possible it's just my own personal belief that this much time and effort MUST be better than without it, but I am very impressed.

I was going to look for more upgrades on this setup, but I don't really want any more soldering and complications right now.

I am thinking that the Crack + Speedball + HD800S might be my end game, now I just need to find a pair of HD800S.

Thought I would mention I bought myself a Logitech G933 wireless gaming headset a few weeks ago, very impressed by them, they support 3 simultaneous inputs (wireless USB and 3.5mm) which means I am able to play a game and listen to music at the same time while having control of the levels for each.

The build quality is robust and they are very comfortable, the sound is very impressive and having the 7.1 surround in games that support it is an awesome feature. I am amazed at the sound quality, very clear and deep sound. The noise cancellation works very well.

Will be buying another pair for my partner to use.

The QC 25 had an issue with sound quality, and to be honest when I picked them up I wondered where my money would have gone, then I listened to them and was not impressed.

Has the SQ improved with the new model? Will they rival my Polk Ultrafocus 8000?

I see a lot of favourable reviews and scores of close to 10/10 but not really a lot of mention of the SQ compared to the QC 25

The QC25 isn't exactly audiophile, but then they are ANC so there are limitations. Having said that I listened to 13 hours of music Frankfurt to Singapore the other day and wasn't horrified. What issues are you experiencing specifically.

The highs annoy me on my Q25's - apart from that, they're pretty much what I would expect from a noise cancelling headphone in a hostile environment (like a plane).

If I cared that much, I'd roll off the top end in my iPad settings, but really, I have more issues with my ears popping than the sonic performance of my noise cancelling cans to bother...

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I currently have some Polk Ultrafocus 8000 which sound amazing, noise cancelling is great but the noise isolation isn't great.

I tries the QC25 when I purchased the Polk's but the sound quality was relatively poor, so my question is now that the QC35 are out what is the SQ like here in comparison to the older QC25 and compared to what were regarded as on of the top 2 best sounding noise cancelling headphones.

Of course I could try myself but I am interested in other opinions as trials are only ever in a shop in one environment.

Edit: the email is a bit confusion, it might be headsets only. I'm not sure, worth a try anyway.
