In terms of sound quality, do mobile phone 3.5mm jack headphones differ really?

If so, what is a good make/model to buy?

if you looking for quality and value, then this post may help

http://www.head-fi.org/t/625124/over-performing-over-achieving-headphones-iems-for-their-price-range-top-cost-effective-cans-iems

provided many options are not readily available in NZ.

if you don't mind a full size headone, the philips uptown is rather comfortable and decent, and should give you some passive noise isolation, price is not bad at Noel Leeming, on special for $117 (jb hifi retail $179), cheaper than even most ebay sellers.

ideally try them in shop for a bit longer, and compare different models. reviews and opinions are sometimes subjective thus ymmv.
