A friend has run an update on his Panasonic TV which has resulted in the machine not starting.  A technician has determined that the mother board has been burnt out. Is it possible that an update can cause this, and is there any way that he can confirm this without spending more money for a second opinion?

Thanks for your help, sorted by removing the power lead, pressing the on button, and turning the tv back on.  Done
