Okay so I'm selling two of my old laptops online at the moment.

One of them is an ACER Aspire 5100 which I bought about 4 years ago and it crapped out about a 18months after I bought it from viruses and general negligence. I had a go at fixing it but it was beyond my level of expertise so I took the hard drive out of it and am selling it as is for either parts or refurbishing.

The other is a COMPAQ Presario CQ60-120TU which i bought 2 years ago and that died earlier this year from over-heating. I cleaned it, fixed up any loose wiring, replaced the hard-drive and recovered it to its original settings. Now its in better condition than my current one!

I'm just curious as to how much you think they're worth??? See I've only just started teaching myself the basics of DIY laptops this year so I'm still a noob especially when it comes to selling anything. I seem to be getting alot of interest in both of them which I didn't expect and I REALLY need the extra money for xmas so I don't want to get ripped off like I have in the past out of stupid naivety but I don't want to get in over my head and charge some ridiculous price.

So anyone's thoughts would be most welcome :))

Thanks.

Find a laptop with similar specs and list your laptop at a similar price.

OR live alittle and list it for $1 reserve.  I just sold a computer for $70 and it had a $1 reserve - last week I had it listed with a $50 reserve and had no bids.  Go figure.

The dead Acer - start bidding for $1 set reserve as $50 - $100?
Compaq - start bidding for $1 set reserve for $350 - $400.
Nowadays you can get a brand new laptop with better specs for $700 to $800, don't think people will pay for more than $500 for a 2nd hand stuff.

Thanks guys.

I did look up the specs for them both but unfortunately there was next to no info on the Acer which I took as a bad sign so I put a $50 reserve. Surprisingly its had quite a bit of interest on it though. Now it's up to $90 with a few days left which I'm more than happy with.
@ RedCrossFire, I estimated about the same amounts you thought they were worth. The Compaq's at $310 with $400 reserve. Im not gonna be greedy, if I can get around $500 for them both, I'll be happy so fingers crossed there's a last minute bid war.

Update

I ended up selling the Acer for $150 and the Presario first of all in a bid war for $333 then the guy ended up being a no-show. Relisted it with a Buy Now of $350 and it sold in the first few hours :D
So very happy I got the $500 I hoped for.

Thanks for your help!
