Someone should use a support call to find the recommendation for this scenario. I will not be buying one for a while yet - thanks for the testing guys : ).

All working fine now. Here's what I did: (typing from Surface Pro 4)

- Clean Install Windows 10 using standard image (not surface pro image)
- Check for updates. It'll update to a more recent version even though the version available for download *SHOULD* have been the latest version all patched up
- Install Surface Pro firmware and drivers

All good to go!

MS you have a looooooooooong way to go before you can find a home where someone does not hold an IT degree or does this stuff for a living!

All I can say at this point is when my wife got her brand new iPad, it JUST worked!

Very frustrating experience though. Not something I expected of a premium product.

It is concerning. I would have expected more eyes on it. Maybe they wound down the config team too early.

its not normal and its not common at all.

you could've just had it replaced rather than reinstalling

what happened to you is not common and not normal at all

hardware breaks, stuff happens, even Apple can ship DOA product out, its a fact of life.

Hi,

Can I bother one of you who have downloaded SurfacePro4_BMR_155_2.114.0.zip to post a sha256 sum for it?

Hash-tab http://implbits.com/products/hashtab/ can generate it (once installed it gives a tab in the file properties for hashes). You do have to right-click in the white part of the properties tab and select settings and select sha256.

Thanks in advance

Hi, has anyone purchased a SP4 off the Microsoft online store? I made my purchase last Sunday and got my confirmation and tracking number on Tuesday. However my tracking number hasn't been updated since Monday with the last update being "Shipment information received" in Melbourne. I called DHL, they asked me to get a mother airway bill or something like that from Microsoft. I called Microsoft Store support and all they could give me was my tracking number.

I know its a bit early to get worried about my shipment because its only been 5 of the 7 days that they state it might take, but i just wanted to get some more information about its location. Anyone else had an issue like this?

I can't say I have. But I am keen to hear why you decided to buy from Microsoft directly vs a NZ retailer?

Only because I thought the Microsoft Complete would be best from them, also i didn't think it would be such a difficult process. Honestly I regret it though, the online store is probably only good for digital purchases.

I've forwarded your comments onto MSNZ and the Store people in AU

I was thinking about getting an Apple iPad Pro for travel and photography use. However, having investigated that, I do not think it will work because of things such as the inability to connect HDD's easily, to process RAW files and so on.

Is it possible to connect Thunderbolt drives to a Surface Pro 4? I know it does not have TB ports but is there an adaptor etc that would do it?

I received my Surface Pro 4 today just within the 7 working days. I think they group all sales within the week and then ship all together.

Unfortunately its DOA, it boots up the surface text then after about 20 seconds it goes to a battery logo with one bar then shuts down. I went through with all the steps Microsoft support asked me to do and then they requested i send it in for a replacement. So the whole replacement process is going to take around 3 weeks. 1 week to send it in, 1 week for them to assess it and then another week to get a new one sent to me. At this point i doubt i would get it before Christmas due to the peak shipping period. Im not sure how the return process works if you bought instore but im guessing it would be quicker.

I really regret purchasing it off the Microsoft online store now, but at least their support has been good.
