MA3LK: I received my Surface Pro 4 today just within the 7 working days. I think they group all sales within the week and then ship all together.

Unfortunately its DOA, it boots up the surface text then after about 20 seconds it goes to a battery logo with one bar then shuts down. I went through with all the steps Microsoft support asked me to do and then they requested i send it in for a replacement. So the whole replacement process is going to take around 3 weeks. 1 week to send it in, 1 week for them to assess it and then another week to get a new one sent to me. At this point i doubt i would get it before Christmas due to the peak shipping period. Im not sure how the return process works if you bought instore but im guessing it would be quicker.

I really regret purchasing it off the Microsoft online store now, but at least their support has been good.

That's a real bummer.

Looking at getting SP4, need for a second laptop has arisen again in the home. Curious to know about emulator performance, particularly in Dolphin, if anyone has anything to say on that. There is a Dolphin benchmark, that would allow for some good comparison. Obviously purchase doesn't hinge heavily on emulator performance, but would be pretty keen to know if anyone can shed some light.

Noel Leeming has advised some stock should arrive next week. Microsoft Store has some i7 models in-stock.

Which i7 model are you looking to get? I am aiming for the top end model with the 512GB SSD.

Ha, trying to decide between 8 and 16gb 256 models. I don't think I need 16gb, but... I will probably get the 16gb given I will not plan to replace this for five years or something.

I am thinking an i7 will have a better resale value in the future too as there would be more i5s around.

Yes, but nowhere near the multiplier you are paying for it. More accurately it will be more saleable but not much effect on the price realised.

Top end model will actually be 1TB 16GB i7

It's not quite out yet as 1TB NVMe SSDs are rare. Coming out early next year.

The i7 in SP4 is significantly better than SP3 because of the Intel's Iris Graphics 540.

Oh don't say that! Now I really have to upgrade my SP3! ;-) I wonder if my wife will take your word for it......

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Upgrade does make financial sense while the sp3 still has some value left in it. Sp3 is already 2 proc generations behind, but S/H price is holding well.. For the moment..

i had a good play with the SP4 when I was in one of the shops. It seems like a very nice device indeed. Something I would definitely consider as a replacement for my macbook air for travels and portability. What is the best deal people have seen on the SP4 with keyboard (in my opinion, the keyboard should be included with the Surface)

I wanted one.. then I looked at the prices.

No.. Just no.. I'm not paying extortionate Apple like prices, no matter HOW nice they are.

I mean for gods sake you can get a top end Sager gaming notebook with vastly superior specs for less than that top i7.

Is the SP3 really that bad?
