However, there are still a few uncertainties around. One biggie is the charge for installation. Will it always be free or will it come at $3,000 or so? The providers must be worried sick about these costs incurred.
I can be connected now so can I risk waiting until next year given the connection charge doubts? Joining now locks me in for at least a year or, more likely, 18-24 months. Could that bite me on the proverbial? Obviously, the answer is, "Who knows?".
If I sign up now I have to pay Telecom $199 for a broken contract so that steers me towards Orcon as they would effectively pay for that!
Guess I should just get on with it and contact Orcon!!

I would doubt the residential install would be anything close to $3k since that would effectively kill residential UFB before it even gets off the blocks. My bet would be more like the sub $400.
If being locked into a 24 month contract with Orcon and their very small data caps sounds appealing before any of the T1 Telco's announce their pricing then go for it. I am sure in 2 years time the landscape will be significantly different so then you will be able to change to a RSP & Plan more around what you need or pay the break fee again (first $199 from Telecom now, then whatever Orcon charge as their break fee).
Me I would prefer to wait and see what everyone else comes up with as I am not sure where the urgency comes from.
