Hello All!

Here at our premises we just got BigPipe VDSL.

Pretty good down speed sync rate at 57mbps... A speedtest.net result is 42mbps however up speed is 1.5mbps

This does not sound right to me.. I have logged a ticket with Bigpipe, but would like to get other peoples feedback on this.

I was expecting around 10mbps at least considering down speed is that high

Equipment: Fritz Box 7490

I have attached some pics.

Do you have a master filter? As you're with Big Pipe it's unlikey you do unless one was installed earlier as they will not pay to install one my default as most ISP's do.

If you look at your bit loading graph you'll no doubt see a big chunk of your upstream missing, and the most likely cause of this is a wiring related. As your attenuation is fine it's pointing towards something such as corroded or loose connectors. If you don't have a master filter and the modem is not plugged directly into the demarc I'd suggest you resolve this issue first as you need to eliminate internal wiring (which is the most common cause of faults) before you can start looking elsewhere.

If you have multiple jackpoints and don't have a master filter I'd probably put the chances of the fault being in your wiring in your premises at around 90%, the fault could be in the Chorus network however you will need to eliminate a fault in your wiring first.

I don't believe so.

There was no chorus tech that came out i was on ADSL before and the speed was 23mbps sync rate and upload was 1mbps

I don't think it would be the wiring.

ADSL2+ has a maximum upload of roughly ~1Mbps unlexx Annex M is enabled. What happened in the ADSL2+ means absolutely nothing in the context of your fault.

Please refer to my last post above and have your internal wiring looked. Have a master filter installed or at bare minimum perform a full isolation test connecting your modem directly to the demark and please report back with your findings.

you may have missed the various thread over the last year or so, but quite a few of the big ISPs have stopped doing master filters as standard on naked connections, only putting them in for connections with a landline.

Slingshot, Vodafone, 2degrees(Snap) are some examples.  I'm sure there are others.

OP - before shelling out for a master filter, I would see what Bigpipe say.  Whilst premise wiring is a likely culprit,  it's also the most expensive thing to fix (which is why many ISPs don't just give it away for 'free' anymore).

Better to eliminate other things first that don't cost you money.

I'm well aware of the fact many are cost cutting by not providing it, and it's the reasons issues such as this will continue to occur.

The fact that attenuation is good and that the issue is only affecting upload means there is an issue occurring in the upstream bins on a 8MHz profile and the bitloading graph from the Fritzbox will probably show this very clearly.

Yes the issue could be caused within the Chorus network, but the odds are that it will be within the customer's premises. If this is the case a proper install in the first place would have meant a happy customer from day one.

Until you eliminate internal wiring you can't start looking at the Chorus network which is why an isolation test eliminating all internal wiring is the very first thing to perform to diagnose a fault.

This is a very new premise.

I have connected to modem directly to the Dmarc and still same issue.

You can see the problem with upstream in bins 871 - 1260 (or whatever 998 is now using, I don't recall the exact range off the top of my head) which is being impacted. If you've totally isolated and eliminated your premises wiring you'll have to wait to see what Chorus come up with.

rather interesting issue you have, i would be tempted to trail another modem to be on the safe side.

would be interested to know whats got your US1 band in such a bad way though! hard to draw conclusions without looking the QLN and Hlog as looking at your downstream its a pretty clean line. US0 is a little on the weaker side, but not too bad all things considered. ADSL crosstalk doesnt seem to be too bad on your line (not the usual noticeable dip below 512bins that would be commonly seen.)

I wouldnt get your hopes up on this, but based off how short your line is, its likely 17a could come into play for your line. US2 hopefully wouldn't suffer too.

Let us know what chorus come back with.

Yeah it's very weird!

I'm not having any joy with BigPipe all they are saying is you have fantastic down speeds there is no reason for chorus to come out.

I keep telling them it's the upload speed i need. They don't seem to be reading their emails very well about 6-7 emails so far today.

Their website also states 5-19mbps potential upload.

Bigpipe if you are on here can you hurry this up.

Thank you

Just to add had a tech have a look at it not from chorus. my modem connect directly to dmarc less than .5m of cat 6 cable joined with gels. so 100% no issue there.

That there is a key point that probably should have been made clear in the OP.

Did the tech re-terminate? insure there wasn't a loose joint? seems unlikely considering the connection isnt erroring much but worth a look none the less.

No the tech did not just crimped with pliers to make sure it was getting a good connection.

Just saw this thread. Good to hear you've got a fault logged. If you can PM us your email address it means we can keep an eye on your case from our end as well and make sure everything is progressing as it should. We'll also keep an eye on this thread to see the results of the tech visit; those kind of VDSL up speeds simply aren't good enough!
