Great it comes with a cable but how do you sync with Outlook?
Any and all help much appreciated.

Hi, the Sanyos dont do Outlook syncing out of the box like a Nokia does. The cable is there so you can connect to the internet or transfer pictures / music to and from your phone.

Go and Google 'bitpim' (i think thats the name), as I do beleive they have software which may allow copying data between Sanyos and PIMs, but I dont think it does actual syncronising (in the automatic sense of the word).

Sanyo USB Drivers and BitPim (MM-5600)

Many people have asked about USB drivers for their Sanyo PC Data Cable. After much searching I finally found them. And I must tell you they work! I couldn't get BitPim to work because I didn't have the drivers.....After installing the drivers BitPim worked great.

I have a MM5600 which is NOT supported by BitPim. I used the MM-7400 as my phone type. I was able to import all my phone contacts from outlook into bitPim and then send them to my phone.

FYI - There is currently a new version of Datapilot in testing to support the 5600 & 8200.

Please note the operative word "in testing". It is not released yet.
Included in the new version will be added support for the 5600 & 8200 including calander sync with Outlook.
The calander sync support has also been added for the 7400 & 4920 aswell.

No official release dates, but we're hoping to have it out in August.

I can't give you an official answer just yet, but the option is already under investigation.

In an ideal world we'd like to sell the cable and the software both, but yes, understandable it can be rather hard justifying it to a user who received a cable free with their phone. I'll let you know once there's an official announcement.

OK. The Official answer is out. Yes. Datapilot will also be available by itself as a separate purchase. Exact price & release date to be determined, but it's expected to be released Early August. It will be sold as a retail item through existing channels, not an online purchase.

The upgrade for existing users will be released to the website first, followed by updated CD's for sales with cables, and the software by itself.

An announcement will be sent by email to existing users notifying them of the update.

I got an exact price a few hours ago. I wont post it though becuase i cant remember offhand if its the RRP or the wholsale price.

Either way, it was good news - very affordable for the function it provides.

All we need now is bluetooth in the Sanyos, and we will be set... :-)

Does datapilot provide proper automatic syncing (i.e. just plug the cable in and after inital setup, future syncs require no further clicks or intervention?)

LOL, Shh. I know a few people are already being told the price it's going to sell for but it's not supposed to be public release just yet. ; p

Pretty much everythings been unofficially decided, but there's still a few things we're working on that will be included if they're ready in time. Primarily along the line of streamlining and improving overall installation experience for the user.

No, it's still a case of running the program in order to Sync, and that particular aspect isn't likely to change. Primarily as it's still a serial based communiction. The Serial port won't always be present (when phone's unplugged), and when it is present if the port is locked it prevents other uses (ie: CDMA Data calls with Sanyo 8100).

Price is a moot point anyway until its available.

It would be nice to see Telecom subsidise this sort of productivity tool though. (maybe give it free to managed customers on selected plans).

I know lots of people who would probably have push 2 talk, but wont give up Nokias Outlook syncing capability.

I'll ask a few questions, but I must admit I haven't had a look at the website in quite some time. I wouldn't be surprised it stays at that price for the retail.
