As an average family with teenagers who like to watch heaps of on demand video etc, moving from our current Fibre30 150GB plan to unlimited for the same price is a no brainer. We don't do peer-peer file sharing, so I suspect we are the perfect target audience for Telecom. I for one have had rock solid reliability with Telecom UFB since we signed up last year, so I am very happy to not chase another provider that might offer something for $10 per month less. For the price of 3 coffees per month I'll go for reliable every time.

Somehow I love the ad.

I have the sudden urge to move to Telecom after seeing the ad in HD, twice.

Edit: I went to the site and wanted to sign up for telecom fibre 100/50. I am already connected to fibre but Telecom said that fibre is not available in my area (Tauranga). #sad #notagignaire

Are you on Telecom fibre? Doesnt EOL do the fibre there? do they let other ISP's use it?

I hope they are considering removing the traffic shaping like orcon did, Monitor it for a couple of months and if its good remove it

They should no longer be charging that as it was to combat the Big back Yard where telstraclear was running their fibre network now that UFB is available in most NZ cities there is no reason to still charging this, But they will if you don't challenge them on it make a point of it when asking for service

Landline pricing is still cheaper in those 3 cities that the rest of NZ.

A friend of mine here in Hawkes Bay has gotten them to knock it on the head when he upgraded his BB account for more data he told them he wouldn't be paying $10 more than auck ham wel because there was no longer the competition in those cities that there once was with UFB now being installed just about everywhere else as that was the reason for the $10 extra charge everywhere else

Another minor point which I don't see any mention of (apols if I just missed it) is that the unlimited plan also no longer allows you to have a static IP. I find this useful sometimes so given the fact that I never get anywhere near my 500GB limit, it's effectively "unlimited" so I'll put the extra $10/month it costs me over the new plan down to being for less traffic-shaping (which I realistically probably wouldn't notice anyway) and a static IP.

Am I right in thinking that some of the other smaller data allocations have already increased? My father reckons he's on a 60GB/month plan but the closest now looks to be 80GB.

seem like no more with an Ultra mobile Pay Monthly Plan. They changed to with a $10 Bundle Up Bonus.
How does that $10 Bundle Up Bonus works? if with an Ultra $39 a month that will become $29?

Has Chorus installed Fibre past your door, or is it in their plan?

I recommend snap -- they don't traffic shape at all and you get unmetered downloads between 1am - 7am if you have a datapack .

Although, I wonder if snap will react to this new telecom product.

Who knows when telecom will ever get to tauranga.

Oh damn I remember the Go Large(ly slow) plan.

Telecom never admitted it but my line was always limited to approx 350Kbit/s per connection out. This was proven time and time again as using a download accelerator and setting the connections would always give increases of ~350Kbit/s per chunk. 2 chunks would net me a whopping ~700Kbit/s, 4 = 1.4Mbit/s, etc...

Loving my Orcon plan, $99/mo for Unlimited Data, Free national calls up to an hour each, Caller ID, Voicemail and Call waiting.

It makes a lot more sense to me to simply uncap all plans, but have more variance in the 'guaranteed' rate that the customer will get.

What I am saying here is that if a customer's line is only capable of 5Mbit/s then they can sign onto a 5Mbit/s plan at $75/mo and another customer can sign up to another plan at !0Mbit/s for $90/mo and anything higher could be $99/mo.

This lets your customer feel like they are more in control of their spending, as well as not over-promise what the ISP cannot deliver.

We are in live trials in all of the UFF areas (except Wanganui at this stage - that's still in the pipeline).

It is definately coming. We don't announce launch dates on geekzone however - they are commercially sensitive :)
