cbrpilot:samdouglas: 100 megabit Fibre with unlimited downloads for $129/month.
TAKE MY MONEY.
Please :( I am in a rural area of Kapiti with ADSL.
Has Chorus installed Fibre past your door, or is it in their plan?
You can check it out here:

If Fibre is available from Chorus, then it will be available in the coming months from Telecom. We are in the process of getting our handover link from Chorus for this area sorted.

unfortunately not. not enough houses in our area yet to make it worthwhile i guess :( which is a shame as im sure there'd be a few fibre converts!

I've sometimes wondered whether it is possible to chat to chorus about laying the cable oneself and then letting the do the hooking up at either end - reason why I was thinking that was the number of farmers who have equipment that could dig a ditch and do all the work on their own property.

With enough money, sure. But numbers I heard from other threads on the subject ranged into ~6k for 100m of fibre laid. Not inconceivable for a neighbourhood willing to take some debt for good internet, but is good internet really going to pay for itself for farmers?
Curious as to the reduction in cost if the homeowners did their own ditches, I admit.

optical: I am currently on ADSL with telecom and really want to switch over to fiber, and this unlimited offer is probably enough to make it worth the swap. My biggest concern is being without internet during the transition from ADSL to fiber (Flatting with 6 people, they won't be happy with a lack of internet for more then a day). Will I be able to keep the ADSL until the fiber is fully functioning - ie the tech has installed it and it's all go? Will this cost more? Does anyone have any advice on this?
Cheers!
Kapzlock: It makes a lot more sense to me to simply uncap all plans, but have more variance in the 'guaranteed' rate that the customer will get. What I am saying here is that if a customer's line is only capable of 5Mbit/s then they can sign onto a 5Mbit/s plan at $75/mo and another customer can sign up to another plan at !0Mbit/s for $90/mo and anything higher could be $99/mo. This lets your customer feel like they are more in control of their spending, as well as not over-promise what the ISP cannot deliver.

MarkCerny: So what's the latest on this ? For people who are on this plan, is it the same speeds ? I am on 500gb now but am thinking of changing to unlimited to save a bit of $$.
