JonoNZ:

That setting has been in the iOS 16 betas for quite some time now.

Bother. Calls still work, and my router shows traffic, but I can't tell if it's ACTUAL traffic...

There's a special icon that shows if you are (see below). Spark still haven't enabled on iOS despite the iOS 16 release. My understanding is a carrier update (or maybe 16.1) will turn it on.

iOS 16 isn't released publicly until next week.

WiFi calling no longer appears as an option on my S22+.  This happened after the August update.  I made a WiFi call with Vodafone the day before the update was installed, so it definitely had been working.

Weird.

@w2krules What has VodafoneNZ WiFi calling got to do with SparkNZ WiFi calling?

WiFI calling never has worked on the Samsung S22+ on SparkNZ

IMS type carrier config is not part of AOSP and Android does not have a universal way of delivering all carrier configs. Virtually every Android device has a unique software SKU and different development and software release timing.

I am running LineageOS (onclite) v19.1 (Android 12). This is likely to be close to AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Is VoWiFi ever likely to work with Spark/Skinny?

I know that as the phone also has a Spark SIM.  The point is that the most recent update has removed the WiFi calling option, which was there previously and worked on Vodafone.

@w2krules If you pop a VodafoneNZ SIM card back into the handset WiFi calling will come back

I would not expect it any time soon. Does you phone offer you options to enable it? Does VoLTE from any NZ carrier work? Hopefully they'll eventually support as more carriers and OEMs support schemes like the GMSA settings exchange: https://www.gsma.com/services/nsx/.

The phone is dual SIM (very neat design by Samsung), and what I have to do now is turn off the Spark SIM, then reboot the phone to get WiFi calling on the Vodafone SIM.  Hopefully this will all get sorted in the next few months.

Curious to know, with VoLTE its possible to contact Spark and get them to toggle on VoLTE even if your phone is not supported - "at your own risk".

Is it possible Spark will do the same with VoWifi once the roll out is more advanced?

VoWifi from a network perspective is allowed for all VoLTE users, no provisioning required if you already have VoLTE, and will work as soon as your device is supported.

My comments and remarks are not necessarily of my employer.

Why not just let devices that already have VoWIFI support have access now then? i.e. devices originating from other carriers where the original carrier has authorized VoWIFI in the firmware already?

Because even then, the results will be unpredictable.
