zena1919:
mentalinc: Charging the $99 install/checkup fee sounds fair.

But what happens with the splitter already installed that is being checked?
Does it get removed and a new one put in place?

Happy to pay $99 less cost of splitter which is say $10-15 at the bulk price I assume Chorus buy them at...

Edit:
Does this also mean "cowboys" like coffeebaron are out of a job now since Chours will charge the fee regardless?

There is a difference between the splitter in a ADSL ETP and a VDSL one. Apparently the VDSL one has 3 pairs inside not 2 pairs in a ADSL one. need to crawl under the desk with a screw driver to have a look.

Sorry to drag zena1919 out of the naughty corner, but its more than 3pairs rather then 2pairs, its the fact that the filter inside is designed to perform to 30MHz not 2MHz, and for the record the orange and green pairs are actually connected together, as far as I am aware no suppliers found the need to provide a HP side between the orange and green to meet the spec.

Router arrived today - just waiting final confirmation of visit time tomorrow and will be all set.

Very impressed.

Have you contacted Michael, NeilJane or Me to do a line test and see if you're going to be ok.  Either email me pl at telecom.co.nz with your home line number and I can email back the line test showing if you are ok or not.

This week, in homage to Bladerunner, I'm going under the name of Deckard. (Not Jane)

Cheers - N

Been in touch with Simon and Michael. Results were inconclusive so waiting until there is a response from Chorus.

Indeed, super swift delivery of the router.  I'm now starting to regret the wait, having booked the installation for the end of the month.

There's a rumor floating around they're quite shiny. But glad things are falling into place :)

For those of you with routers already arriving, when did you apply for VDSL? I made my application on Monday evening (around 8pm) and just heard from Telecom that it'll likely be 2-3 weeks despite having picked the 'within 5 working days' option. :(

I'm hoping this won't prove to be too accurate!

Shoot.

The ones already received their routers applied in the morning via 123, there is a few online form customers receiving their routers too. Bare with us a wee bit here as this has been quite a chaotic launch for us - so many people signing up so wait times are above the norm :) but it's all worth the wait.

But do androids dream of electric sheep?.. And you're so not a Deckard, you're way more JF Sebastian as per the quote on the end of the page :)

Just an FYI. Some of Telecom's customers are still on the old school UBS (or FIPD as we sometimes call it) broadband connections. Any customer on UBS wanting to have VDSL must first be migrated over to UBA broadband. The process for this takes up to 2 weeks, after which time the VDSL order can be issued (with the 5 day lead time starting from that point). I suspect this may be what has happened in your case Mallas.

We have been gradually migrating our whole customer base over from UBS to UBA for the last couple of years and I think we are almost complete, however I know there are still some UBS connections out there.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, I'll be waiting till after 2016 before my area even gets fibre, so what's another few weeks. :D

To be honest, I don't even need the faster speed, but it's just something nice to have. Sorry for clogging up the queue for those of us that desperately need it. Haha
