Glazza:

Only works for mobiles on the Spark network.

Should work for any number.

Yep just double checked from a SIP trunk from Devoli, presenting a NZ local number.

@sbiddle - do you know why the Vodafone numbers don't get the right number echoed back to them?

Rikkitic: ... I don't have the number and can't figure out how to get it. ...

Seems like you have several options, depending on your mobile network provider.

Rikkitic: ... I can ring out without any problem but can't ring to the phone...

Considering you can call out, the mobile number should show by default on the receiving mobile handset (or land line with caller ID enabled & display available).

If not, you have two options

  1. Dial #31#<mobile number> which enables the caller ID for this one call. Thx to USSD page on Wikipedia.
  2. Go to settings and find the option to show / hide my own umber

Something similar has been asked many times here on GZ itself. This query also reminds me of sending <mobile number> to 300 to find out if it is on the same mobile network as your own phone.

She said she wanted to find out the number but didn't want to bother anyone to do it.

Dial 083201234 and it will repeat your number back to you.

I got a recorded message saying "welcome to the message exchange, please enter your mailbox number then press #".

Presume that is actually the Spark voicemail system. As I think that 083210 is the Spark voicemail number.

Dialed from an 021 number that has been ported to 2degrees.

Maybe it doesn't work with ported numbers? I dunno. It's always worked for me.

You dialed 0832101234 - the number just starts with 08320
