Should work for any number.

Yep just double checked from a SIP trunk from Devoli, presenting a NZ local number.

@sbiddle - do you know why the Vodafone numbers don't get the right number echoed back to them?

On 2degrees it does not not work just the 2degrees person saying check the number and dial again

Seems like you have several options, depending on your mobile network provider.

Spark (ex Telecom)
- Call 083201234
Vodafone (See What's the number for my mobile, Vodem or tablet? & Vodafone and other mobile short code numbers)
- FREE TXT the word 'number' to 521 from your mobile
  We'll send you back a TXT with your number, just like this one: "Hi! 0211234567 is your mobile number."
  This is a free service.
2Degrees
- TXT the word 'mob' to 233
- Dial '*101#' from your mobile. '*001#' only works while using 2Deg coverage

Considering you can call out, the mobile number should show by default on the receiving mobile handset (or land line with caller ID enabled & display available).

If not, you have two options

Dial #31#<mobile number> which enables the caller ID for this one call. Thx to USSD page on Wikipedia.
Go to settings and find the option to show / hide my own umber

Something similar has been asked many times here on GZ itself. This query also reminds me of sending <mobile number> to 300 to find out if it is on the same mobile network as your own phone.

All the telcos should just standardise this stuff.. Use the same info number.

I got a recorded message saying "welcome to the message exchange, please enter your mailbox number then press #".

Presume that is actually the Spark voicemail system. As I think that 083210 is the Spark voicemail number.

Dialed from an 021 number that has been ported to 2degrees.

Maybe it doesn't work with ported numbers? I dunno. It's always worked for me.
