richms: Lets find a vodafone and telecom staff directory and start entering those numbers into these scam sites?

awesome. cos you are assuming that we dont get enough of this type of thing already?

Do you mean that telco staff are aware of this problem (unsolicited subscription to paid services) and still nothing changed in the way it's marketed?

freitasm: That'd be hilarious. I can bet very quickly they would stop these services.

Really? Deliberately signing up people to scam services would be funny?

I understand you're passionate about this, but really?

Cheers - N

I think you missed the sarcasm - my line "That'd be hilarious" is the part that gives it away.

Well you dont act when it happens to your customers on a frequent basis,

How would you feel if I could just click on something on facebook and have $5 taken off your creditcard without you confirming or approving the transaction, because that basically is what happens if you put someones number into half that scam crap up on there. If I had money and time to waste I would do it to prove it.

You say someone else added your number. And you were charged for it? Because then that's exactly my point... Anyone can basically run a customer out of money by simply registering this customer's number with those services.

And there's no accountability. No checks and balances. Telcos always say it's the user's fault, when it could be a scam, or a prank.

That's why I think telcos should not allow these services, at all.

i wasnt charged. i didnt reply - either to the message or the email.

Neal has posted the link to the complaints form - i'd recommend using that instead of adding the numbers of staff in .... considering a very large proportion of those staff a) agree the spamming sucks and b) try and support their customers in any way they can.

I'm not going to pretend I'm up with the latest in mobile premium services... BUT...

If someone was to supply me with a list of the services that are able to be signed up to without the owner of the phone approving and cost money to that user without them somehow (for example answering a text) approving, then I promise I'll collate them on my own time and show them to someone in power.

Cheers - N

If someone has Paul Reynolds personal cell number they could pass it to me anonymously and I will gladly submit it to Funmobilenz.com, and openly admit it. Right now he would probably claim there is no problem.

Thought I would see what happens on my old CDMA phone, put the number in and never got anything come to it or any balance change, so I guess they are broken or something - or they cant handle a ported 021 to telecom.

Not going to try with any of my useful phones since I can hardly claim I didn't authorize it if I get charged and I have ticked the box saying I have.

Are you saying this site (when up) is able to place a premium charge onto a phone without confirmation from the account holder (or someone having access to their phone?)

Interesting. Reading their &Cs, it seems just replying "STOP" is not enough.

You have to reply STOP and a two letter code corresponding to the services you "subscribed" to - if you know it.

I will ensure that someone investigates the source of this short code. It would appear from the information provided that this service is breaching our terms and conditions of use of short codes.

Can you still register this with the DIA.

Neal
