I believe the Skinny address checker takes congestion of the network into account, and I guess that less network capacity is allocated for use by Skinny customers than by Spark customers. For example I checked my bach in Otematata for Skinny 4G service over the holidays and it showed as not available, however it is available now. Spark 4G was available to order on both these occasions.

The population of Otematata can swell to 5000 people over December/January, but there are less than 100 permanent residents. If I order Skinny wireless now when demand is low (which I plan to) then I can be sure of having access to the service next summer when I want it.

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer Chorus NZ Ltd

But if you’re only there in the Summer, surely the Spark plan for 1-2months is cheaper than the Skinny plan all year?

So just an update - moved house and wireless modem still working. In fact stronger connection and better download speeds than my old address. This despite my new address not being supported 🤔
Now let's see how long it takes Skinny to catch on...

Having told them in this Skinny thread 🤦🏼‍♂️

Hope it works, but.... probably better if you don’t post this type of thing where they are watching too?

I've signed up for Orcon fibre. This is just to call Skinny out for their shonky "Unfortunately, coverage is not at your place at the moment" business practice.

Interesting to see how long it takes them to rein in your modems elicit wandering.

'Shonky' is a little harsh - availability to simply to balance the network loads. They don't offer it everywhere because they only have spare capacity in some locations.

Thank You Skinny for the $49/120GB plan.  For those of us stuck with no land connection I envy others with the Unlimited plans.  Wonder is Skinny will ever offer us a 400GB plan so I don't have to constantly monitor my usage.  It would be nice to see a larger data offering.

AFAIK it just stops working when you run out, and you can then just ‘restart’ your next 30 day pack... so you actually can happily do 400Gb/month already?

Only problem is it might interrupt a large/overnight update or ‘run out’ mid movie... but still only 3 times a month if your aim is 400gb?

TY and yes I realize that, however I was hoping for sub-$100 option as opposed to the landline unlimited alternative for those fortunate enough to have a fixed connection.

Yeah but fixed cellular is still a little more constrained than fixed line... I’m personally ecstatic to get 120Gb for half the price VF cost for 100Gb on my ADSL only 5-7 years ago... AND at a faster up/down speed too 👍

unfortunately, it simply isn't feasible.

When you look at a single tower may have a maximum capable throughput of 1gbit, but that shared between the 100 users on the tower... leaves 10mbit on average for all the userbase.

When you get a few users all pushing 50mbit constantly, it nolonger becomes feasible at all.

With 5G, the airwaves bandwidth is used more effectively, however even then unlimited can be risky.

i forsee larger plans possible as networks grow.

The skinny branding isn't as clear as the Spark branding for this 240GB UWBB product.

part of this is Skinny do not sell Rural products at all.

As discussed in the other Thread, there are many factors that come into this.
