ianajmes: just had install completed.....initial sync speeds are 37mbps down and 7 up, and my first speedtest as below
im guessing from reading earlier posts things take time to get to the top speeds but very impressed with what i can expect!
Fo0L: So, got the call from Telecom today. No VDSL for me
despite the address checker saying its available at my address. In
fairness, I wasn't expecting it to actually be available at my place, I
know I'm too far from the local exchange (no cabinets). I've
fed back that my address, along with only some of my neighbours returned
positive on the address checker, whilst others returned negative (which
was also a clear signal something was wrong with it!) Hope
everyone who gets crankin' on VDSL enjoys it. In the meantime, I'll
scurry back to my meagre 2Mbps (which was another red flag waaaaaay
back...)... Now, wheres this RBI they keep talking about?!

Shove your address into http://chorus.co.nz/sat to see if that brings up anything, the address checker is based off information given to us by Chorus and this can sometimes be incorrect, shame you can't enjoy VDSL! But fingers crossed your speeds will improve shortly under RBI.
michaelmurfy:Inphinity: Welp, VDSL install happened today as scheduled. With ADSL2+, was syncing at ~19Mbps down ~1Mbps up, attaining real-world speeds of pretty close to that. Now with VDSL2, syncing at 44Mbps down / 10Mbps up, and Telecom's speed test reporting 41.1Mbps down 9.3Mbps up, so pretty good. Not impressed with the clunky, featureless web GUI on the TG589vn, but it's only needed for it's modem so hey ;)
These modems are designed for the non-technical minded people out there, there are some CLI commands which turn it into a rather powerful modem (if you search this forum you'll find people have posted them as workarounds) but in reality, it's a business-grade modem with it's web interface designed towards the general consumer :) - Other way of getting more features is shoving it into bridge mode and using a better router if you think that'll suit you better. But apart from that, great speeds :)
solaybro: If people are going to post what speeds they are getting could you include your ping, I am interested in if it goes down or not.

For me it's not a significant change, but I typically just use Telecoms speedtest, so it's likely to the same server. It's usually 15 - 20ms, on both ADSL2 and VDSL.
Shame I don't get this result at home, though (100mbps symmetrical fibre) ;)
michaelmurfy:garethw: Hey all, question: Chorus tech had issues with installation in my house yesterday and hasn't actually created a clean filtered connection to new port - the old phone jack on other side of room is still on the same "line". He said he's filtered off everything else though. Initial modem connection stats were ~21 up/9 down - if I achieve that real world it's just acceptable to me. But if after 10 days my speeds stay below that (speedtests currently ranging between 17-20 down) can I request Telecom resend a Chorus tech to better wire the house? No particular criticism of tech as the phone lines were all over place and he wanted to see if it would work fine as he'd managed it...
This is the correct install, VDSL is a vastly different sort of product, they install a master filter which separates the VDSL port from the rest of the lines in the house and VDSL really depends on quite a few factors especially how far you are from the exchange. Wait 10 days for DLM to do it's thing then phone up of you think the speeds are not right, but 20mbit down, 9mbit up indicates one of the first stepping profiles, it could only improve from there.

Thanks Michael, sorry I might not have been clear. The install at my place DIDN'T create a clean line from the new jack point to the splitter, Chorus put the splitter on a spot further downstream but thought that might be enough. I definitely know one of the old jackpoints is on the same connection (so have unplugged my phone from it) and there's a possibility our (unused) monitored alarm is on it too. This was because the pairs in my house run all over the place and the tech couldn't find an obvious easy-access spot to install the filter "upstream".
My initial sync speeds were 21/9 which seemed light given I'm <400m from the exchange, but I agreed we'd let it run for 10 days to see where it gets too. Just wanted to check that I could request the wiring be done "properly" if the speeds remain below expectations.
Cheers for the help.
