getresults:
Is there any way to look up the local cabinet based on address?
Is it unusual for my upstream attenuation to jump from 3.8 (ADSL2+) to 43.3 (VDSL)?
Thanks again!
keriboi: Just got home, connection has been up for 6 hours. Has exceeded my expectations.
Bobdn: that's impressive. I just had vdsl installed 1 hour ago. Chorus advised I was getting 31 down and 10 up which is fine by me. However, now I get a message saying "Technicolor Tg589vn v2 network error". I rang telecom and was told that the job hadnt been completed and it could take 24 hours before im back on the internet. It was working. Is there something I'm supposed to be doing my end? .Im wired not wireless and im getting a solid broadband light on modem.
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Nate001: So I ordered VDSL in the weekend after getting confirmation from Michael that VDSL was available at my address. Modem arrived today but then a few hours later I got a call saying we could not get connected to VDSL and telecom does not know when we can, the girl said Chorus said the equipment was not installed in the exchange, the exchange being the Nelson exchange surprised me as is not that small.
Anyone able to shed some light on what they are talking about?

I must admit, that's pretty weird. My real job however is not on the broadband helpdesk, I'm just helping out here :) By the looks it's a brand new cabinet just installed around the area and VDSL availability has just happened in that area, when we popped through a provisioning order Chorus might have pulled it back saying "Hey, this cabinet is not ready yet" - the cabinet itself doesn't exist on Google Streetview. I'll have somebody from the VDSL team take a look at it tomorrow for you.![]()
michaelmurfy: No worries! Strange how that's working with some people. What sort of speeds are you getting now?
Kirdog:
Also with my stats i should get 17 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload speeds with ADSL2+, but i don't get it :).
Kirdog: Probably its not right forum. But i'm still interesting in VDSL and upgrade restrictions.
I have done a lot of research and i have found that VDSL reasonable to install if your distance not more then 1800 meters. (even 2000 meters you will still get higher speeds).
I think i will not be accepted to upgrade to VDSL on my property, because i have 1500 meters distance from the cabinet. Also i have 25-26 dBm Line attenuation. But with this stats i can still get 18-16 Mbps Downstream and 6-7 Mbps Upstream (which i really need). I will be completely happy with this speeds. I will not get Any UFB on my street until 20**+.
Sorry about my bad English guys :>
Nate001:
Oh no not blaming you Michael, appreciate all the help. (if you didn't check I probably would have never gotten around to ordering it)
I found it strange myself as by the looks of it the telecom system thought it was available, if it wasn't they wouldn't have sent out the modem etc. Not sure of the extent of the knowledge of the girl who rang, would it be more likely the cabinet rather than the exchange that is not ready? The cabinet has been there for 2-3+ years.
Nate001: Forgot to mention Michael, the cabinet is on street view, the location on your map is a bit off, further up the hill. More like 29 richardson st.
bot: I'm wondering whether, during the period BB Support were trying to get Chorus to "fix" the line the config was changed to slow things down to try to resolve the situation or the optimisation process switched to a slower profile. I can't see details in the modem log about about the optimisations and profile applied though I seem to remember some posts here showing that detail. Thanks again.
timbosan: Others may confirm, but I think VDSL is limited to 800m to get acceptable rates.I will be reverting back to ADSL this week.

That's a shame! At-least you gave it a shot but now you've got a master filter I'd say you'll have some pretty good ADSL (which as I remember was one of the plans anyway) also Kirdog here's your question answered, if Chorus (the company who owns all the lines) did VDSL installs regardless this would create a bit of a nightmare for the ISP in terms of support, us and Chorus would rather have people with good speeds than the odd person with bad speeds, ADSL is your only hope :) VDSL you'll find just won't work well with this much line just like Tim's.
timbosan:
Yah! Lucky me! The only (?) person so far that has had to fall back to ADSL ;-) Even AKLWestie managed to get his working. Oh well, it could be worse, I could be stuck using Woosh!

How do you fathom that? The ADSL2+ standard defines 1.4Mbps as the maximum upstream bandwidth, so you'd need to be doing port bonding to get above this. Yes, some countries do offer this to allow upstream speeds approaching 3Mbps and downstream of up to 48mbps over ADSL2+, but since it requires use of two ports on the DSLAM etc, it's more costly & involved from a network perspective (there have been cases of people having to wait for ports to free up to get adsl here at all, let alone other users being allocated multiple ports ;)).

I am 1.49KM from the exchange (according to Chrous) and I cannot get more than 15,000 down and 700k up on VDSL (sync speeds), which is worse than what I got on ADSL2+. I have been working extensively with Telecom and Chorus to try and resolve this, but it looks like I am just too far. I too was hoping for an increase in upload speeds, but that's the part that got slower!

Amosnz:
Annex M is available on quite a few DSLAMS in Aus (none of Telstras however) and enables a faster upload on a single line, perhaps he's referring to tech that was never deployed in NZ.
