Spong: I have a static IP with my Telecom ADSL2+ plan, and have my existing modem programmed with my login details of username.xadsl@xtra.co.nz and my password in order to lock in that static IP.

After originally being told I wouldn't be able to keep my static ip, the CSR later found out I could. I've been waiting nearly two weeks to be ported across from the old system, and hope my shift to VDSL is imminent. Will I use the same login details for VDSL as I do with ADSL or is something else required to lock me to my current static ip?

No login details :) part of moving you along to EUBA from FIPD is the ditching of all login details, when you connect your new modem your Static IP will follow.

Vince69: Ok day two for me on Telecom VDSL2. Connection appears rock solid so far.

Sync rate 23195 down (day one 21873) 8604 up (day one 7932)
About 700m from exchange

I do i tell what DLM profile I am on?

Also on the technicolor how can i see what my line attenuation is?

Just follow [This Post] - It's largely unrelated to the Telecom modem but the basis of VDSL are all there. I'm not sure where to find the line stats on the Technicolor but I'm sure one of the guys here can guide you to it :)

Received my Technicolor Modem today. So I have hooked it all up so it's ready for Monday when Mr. Chorus comes a knockin'.

Now I just have to try and figure out the bridging with my redundant Cisco Linksys WAG320.

Just wondering if anyone could give me a quick estimate as to what I may expect from VDSL with these stats:

Also, is there any way to determine how far I am from the exchange from this info?

Now I just have to try and figure out the bridging with my redundant Cisco Linksys WAG320.

Good ole Lobster took his time and wrote a guide with bridging to another router, click [Here] and you'll find you'll have everything you need :) Off the top of my head though the WAG320 doesn't have a WAN port so you'll be best to either use the built in WiFi or just set the WAG320 it's own IP outside of the IP range of your Telecom router then disable DHCP / the ADSL part - from here it'll just be your normal access point.

Might be time for an upgrade though :) I know it's hard, I just said goodbye to my WRT54GL about 4mo ago!

I have WAG320, excellent device.

And it has setting: "1st Ethernet Port" can be configured as a "WAN".

Also it has bridge settings. So it should "bridge" fine i think. :)

That looks like the Orcon Genius :) We'd be happy to have you come across. If you private message me your address I can check it out for you, it's very hard to get an estimation on speeds only since there's so many factors to conciser but I can also give you a ballpark figure for this.

He has 34.4 Upload Attenuation and 16 download. And it seems fine for that.

My up is sub 10 at the moment, and down 15.5. Chorus rejected my connection when my down attenuation was 17.5, and they have since been round and fiddled with something (cut off an unused stub I think) and now it is 15.5. I just want to know, given that other have downstream attenuation of 16, should I try again to get connected?

How are you measuring this? The attentuation reported by, say, an ADSL2 modem, will differ form that reported on the same line by a VDSL modem. If changes have been made to improve it, I'd try again, but I would have thought their pre-qual would be attenuation to the etp which I'm not sure is likely to change much.

I accept that, and Chorus have been out (and tidied up a bit of a nest in the ETP). The prequel was showing 17.5 Attenuation Down, and my ADSL modem was showing the exact same number. Now (after Chorus came) it shows 15.5.

EDIT: Should say, as the crow flies, I am 365 meters from exchange. Along the roads, I am minimum 560m (if it goes the way it looks) and max of about 720m (if it goes the long way around) or somewhere in between. (In fact, who knows, where I live it could go anywhere before getting to me, in which case I may just have to wait for UFB).

Would it be OK for me to ask where you get your prequal attenuation figure from - I am apparently getting VDSL in about a week and my down attenuation is quite a bit higher than yours and Telecom hasn't sent me any emails about my attenuation or expected speeds or that kind of stuff.
