Interesting, if i will extend(dig or use power poles) new cable through to the cabinet, and i will use thick one (awg 14 xD). Do the chorus will connect me? :D Thick cable should reduce attenuation.

I've just been told that Chorus need to do extra checks on my line.
The telecom rep said my line pre-qualed at 1-5db attenuation but is now reporting 44db, just a slight variation.

My adsl2 modem has had 5.5db - 6db solid for the last 3 years, so im expecting the 44db reading is an error, however the extra checks still need to be done before anything continues.

Also, is there any way to determine how far I am from the exchange from this info?

Says your approx 650m, but wasn't very accurate for me!

I went from Data rates of 13,600 down/600 up to 23,000 down/5950up.

is there any way that Telecom can check my attenuation (not from my modem as my home wiring is pretty bad). I dont have landline and using voip with 2talk. currently with slingshot.

so wondering if Telecom can check my address if i can have vdsl or not?
also assumed that chorus will setup new wiring from small box outside the house and will setup new box inside the house??

I had my VDSL installation On Wednesday, unfortunatly there was an issue with the wiring, many extensions and a the main line in the loft not an easy access point. The Chorus engineer left me with a master splitter and a good length of Cat6 cable explaining that the splitter needs to be located on the incomiong line.

I extended the cable from the loft and sorted the cabling, removing all extensions leaving just 1 phone (no sky or alarm). I moved the modem next to the master spliter and punched down the rj45 jack for the modem. The cabinet is in front of my house but the telephone wires go up the road and then back to me so I am approx 40 / 50m from the cabinet.

Telecom sent me a VDSL Modem I was not a huge fan of the Thomson they sent me for ADSL so purchased a netgear N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit DSL Modem Router – Premium Edition (DGND4000) but cannot use this for VDSL.

I would have expected better results but the experience we have had so far has been dissapointing, no better than ADSL videos lag and spped tests much the same as ADSL apart from upload increased.

Very limited info on the Technicolour Router, I notice on the forums users are posting much more detailed info are people using different routers ? I cannot find the SNR only the SNM is shown

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:5.8 / 2.3
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:14.7 / 12.4

I seem to be getting a lot of FEC errors. what are these ?
FEC Errors (Up/Down):8265 / 556

Any suggestions on what I can do ?

Hi helterskelter, but the stats you have given us would indicate you should have great results, but no sync rates are provided, so its like saying I got great tyres but they are still only doing 50km/hr.

Well my results are all over the place.

I can see from 9Mbs to 24Mbs in runs over a 5 minute period. I didn't think VDSL was that variable.

I am getting tons of errors though. This is the modem stats I am getting at the moment.

When i had Tompson router on ADSL2+, i had heaps of these errors(in router stats) and every day rebooting problem of this router. After this headache i have bought WAG320N and forgot all problems.

I think these numbers can be huge, and its normal (probably -_-).

Also you can check your line:

Open CMD

type: ping nzherald.co.nz -t //(you can ping another host, i just put nzherald as an example)

Check for the packet loss.

What is the difference between IKNS & BDCM??

Also this is day 10 of my vdsl connection and have only had one resync on the first day.
