Amosnz: I've just been told that Chorus need to do extra checks on my line.
The telecom rep said my line pre-qualed at 1-5db attenuation but is now reporting 44db, just a slight variation.
My adsl2 modem has had 5.5db - 6db solid for the last 3 years, so im expecting the 44db reading is an error, however the extra checks still need to be done before anything continues.
Phexx: Just wondering if anyone could give me a quick estimate as to what I may expect from VDSL with these stats:
Also, is there any way to determine how far I am from the exchange from this info?
Thanks for the help!
Kirdog:
What is your current speeds and sync rates?

Kirdog: So. My VDSL installation declined. I'm lucky...
Is it any other solution to increase upload speed?

Presumably you're not in a fibre or cable area?
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
lchiu7: Well my results are all over the place.
I can see from 9Mbs to 24Mbs in runs over a 5 minute period. I didn't think VDSL was that variable.
I am getting tons of errors though. This is the modem stats I am getting at the moment.
Uptime: 0 days, 1:21:45
DSL Type: ITU-TG.993.2
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 10,354 / 28,345
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [B/B]: 0 / 0
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 0.5 / 13.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 26.9 / 12.1
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 18.8 / 14.4
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IKNS
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 27 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 33 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 199,371 / 13
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 124/ 5,880,650 <============================
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1/ 5,246
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0/ 31,368
The FEC errors seem very high on Down which might explain why my down stats are so variable whereas the Up FEC errors are low which explain why I can consistently get 8-9Mbs uploads on all tests.
Does this sound like a wiring issue?
