I agree but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

The L2 CSR did not know my exact distance but I shouldn't be far seeing as I am on the North Shore in a major suburb...

I just rang Xtra and they changed my power profile after checking my line attenuation. It has made a HUGE difference. Tripled my DL/UL speeds:

I am sure this is a different issue to the BT problems but it is worth ringing Xtra and checking perhaps...

Just hit 2pm and can still do some gaming without connection lost or lagging.

So for the past week or so I've been having huge difficulty doing even basic web browsing at all times of the day (not sure about off peak)

The main one I'm noticing is not being able to load gmail, it's constantly timing out even in the low-quality version. Youtube as well, and I'm not talking about the videos themselves, but the whole website, it's like I'm on dial-up.

The weirdest thing is that speedtest.net tells me my speeds are fine, 4mbit down and 0.8 up (although this is pretty bad considering I'm less than a km from the exchange and ADSL2+.

On top of this I'm getting random disconnects. I have the default speedtouch modem that telecom gives out, and I can't tell what happens because the log is cleared every time I disconnect (which may be the modem restarting)

Anyone else had similar problems?

SSH is my biggist problem. You cant use it properly.

It freezes constantly (im guessing from packet loss).

I have exactly the same problem. As it was mentioned before, ecrypted -- throtled and on the top of that packet loss.

Yep, same with me.

I think if they haven't sorted it in the next couple of weeks - I'll be going back to Orcon. Sure, the caps aren't as good (and more expensive) but I can't work from home anymore and that's a real clincher when I'm on call.

Well, back to my rubbish connection.

I have no idea WHAT Telecom are up to but this is not good....

The question is, with Telecom being the 'last mile' connection for ALL terestrial broadband in NZ (AFAIK), what options are there???

It was great for me all weekend, but this morning, during off-peak, it was down to less than 10% usual speed :(

On a side note, those calls back I was promised by Telecom never came through. Guess I shouldn't get my hopes up that the Telecom of old was gone.

Connection was great most of yesterday (Sunday), but at 10pm on the dot - flop. Lag returned and didnt go away. Was fine on Saturday till 2pm, then lag. I havn't got a call back from them either, even though an email from them indicated I had talked to someone - maybe I had amnesia lol.

As for this:

Yes, I have wondered about this too. Would this affect all ISP's, as all connections at some stage would go through telecoms system? Hence, any problems telecom has, means every one has it too? :(
