Just inregards to the modem, I would like to DMZ my home server, and it has a static IP set on it and the VDSL modem will only let me do it for a DHCP assigned pc :( is there any way around this? even via telnet?

Must admit theres been heaps of info on this topic, and you Telecom guys are being awesome, I think I knew everything about this setup before we even arranged the install ;)

The DMZ function in the TG589vn works a little differently than some other implementations. It actually allocates the public IP via DHCP to the DMZ client - thus the reason it can only work if you have DHCP assigned. This works fine when you're putting, say, a router in the DMZ, and can have the public IP on it's WAN interface, and still have it's LAN interface configured as normal.

Here's how I turned the Technicolor TG589vn into just a DSL modem doing NAT with all external ports forwarded to a single ethernet cable.

Undo whatever you have done with DMZ in the Technicolor web interface or reset to factory defaults. Unplug the DSL cable from the wall while you do your (re)configuration as you don't want dynamic line management seeing multiple drop/reconnects, one long disconnect must be better.

forward all ports to one specified IP address on the LAN or DMZ network
I use the Technicolor solely as a DSL modem with one Ethernet cable to openbsd firewall.
I did all interfaces, in case I plug in a T-stick, but only PPPoE really needed if you will only use VDSL.
Replace 192.168.0.2 with an address on the 192.168.1.X subnet unless you change the dsl modem ip and subnet as I did.

Replace 192.168.0.2 with an address on the 192.168.1.X subnet unless you change the dsl modem ip and subnet as I did. Replace 192.168.1.0/24 with whatever the actual subnet is for your LAN or DMZ network.

you don’t really want extra latency from the dsl modem reaching out to ask if it’s okay for you to view a website

turn off wifi if you’re going to use something else
at a minimum turn off the power reduction mode so that wifi doesn’t go to sleep and take 0-60 seconds to wake up when you want to use it. always change the ssid and password even if you're not using it in case someone knocks the button on the modem and turns it on (predictable algorithm used default passwords can be guessed).

home network > interfaces > wlan > configure
wlan enable = no (I turn off as use ubiquiti unifi wifi after the firewall)

Ok.

Been connected to VDSL2 for just over 10 days now.

Best speeds ive got so far are 23 down and 8 up. Not expecting my line to improve on that now. Has been very stable since the start with only a couple of dropouts.

Im a little disappointed with the speed as I was hoping i would get over 30 down, but not complaining. Better than ADSL2+ when i was getting 14 down.

Im about 700m from the cabinet so i suppose im getting what i should expect. Fibre not expected to come my way for several years, bummer!

I have had VDSL for just over 2 weeks and been getting steady speeds usually around 36/37 down and 8 up, no dropouts, all quite stable, however i noticed last night my DLM profile had dropped from 1 to 2. Anyone else had this happen?, would it have been done to better my performance?, any input appreciated.

OK, so I have been on VDSL2 for 5 days now. A few problems long the way:

1) Was supposed to be on the Trial, but never got a call.
2) Modem not delivered as I was not at home (you really should be able to choose a different delivery address during the order process). The Online Rep was really good though.
3) Install date was changed but I never got a TXT advising that so wasted a whole afternoon at home (Rep was very apologetic). Looks like Telecom got a port waiter response from Chorus, but never forwarded it on.
4) Install done a week later, I'd already set up the Modem, so just had to change it to VDSL, but no PPP for hours. Had to call and the Telecom port was different to the Chorus one (maybe because of the port change).

Anyway, I have fed this back via a survey email I got from Telecom and been happy since the install. As some of the Telecom guys have said, a few speed bumps with the first mass rollout of this product. This is a really great thread and I encourage people to keep sharing their experiences so it can keep being improved from both a Telecom and Chorus perspective. And continue coffees and bickies for the Techs when they show up, they will be very busy for a long time!!! Oh and the Telecom guys on this thread!

So I was getting 18/10 on 2+, started off at 37.7/10.36. DLM seems to change things every 48 hours, went to 39 and now 40.588 and on DLM2. Hoping I will get to about 41 to 43.

PS: Apparently you need to be about 200m to the Exchange/Cabinet to get 17a profile (50 - 70 megs).

Hi - could use a little technical advice regarding DLM profile. I have been up on VDSL for over 3 weeks. Decent performance with 36 down and 10 up on Telecom Speed Test with very few errors. Modem stays up for long periods (5+ days with no issues) However, latency has gone up to 28-29 ms from original 20ms or less. We were having a new kitchen installed during the 10-day original DLM period (which caused house power sockets to recycle at least a few times during 4 or 5 days) so wondering if this was a cause.

I can't quite figure out what profile I may be on as the Upload and Download values seem to differ and do not fit clearly to any DLM profile. So two questions for help please:
1. What DLM profile am I on? (0dmt/9ms Down and 1.5dmt/15ms UP)
2. Is it worth asking for a port refresh or something else to re-start the 10-day test period (due to power issues during initial 10-day period) or should I just wait as line being monitored already and DLM changes will eventually happen (improve)again.

Every few days now it crashes, dropping all internet connections and does not respond when I try to load 192.168.1.254 over both wired and wireless connections and requires a hard reboot to get it going again. Is anyone else getting these issues with this type of modem or did I just get sent a dud one?

I had a similar issue with the Telecom supplied VDSL2 modem router (TG589vn). It happened a few days ago (when it has been on for approximately 10 days), I noticed that I have constant wifi drop out. Also, I cannot logon to the router either via wifi or ethernet.

At the end I hard reset the unit and put it onto bridge mode. I hook up a TP-Link router with the TG589vn and let the TP-Link router to do all the work (PPPoE authenication, NAT, DHCP ...) and it seems to be OK. Still early days though (2 day), hopefully I can get a stable connection.

Mine does similar - it seems to be connection count that kills it. A significant number of active connections causes it to have a fit for a bit - comes right after a few minutes or so. The reason I suspect connection count is because thus far each time it has happened has been during a large update for one of the various games I have that use P2P traffic for their updates. I've tried maximising throughput on a single connection, and it copes alright, but once there are a few hundred concurrent sessions it seems to throw its hands up and go "I have no idea what todo!". I've factory reset it twice to try and resolve it, but it keeps happening. I'm just going to replace it with a better modem I think.
