Whats wrong with using whatsapp.

WhatsApp only works to people who are using  it.  You can't call landlines and non WhatsApp people .    VoWiFi is great  for those with bad or no cell service.

Yes aware of that, most friends of mine have whatsapp on their phones so have been using this app for years.

So why did you ask the question  then knowing how limiting it was.  For what it's worth most of my family now use WhatsApp to call each other  so much that  the other week I canceled Spark's Everyday calling  plan.  We aren't using it.

This is great for business connections! And when not making family & friends calls as a theme of the previous messages as most people have transitioned over to data platforms.

Will be interesting to see how Spark price roaming based on this.

I didn't ask any questions, was just trying to say while waiting for WiFi calling and for those people who haven't a wifi calling compatible phone or for those using the RCG network without a VOLTE  handset whatsapp is a handy solution.

My Spark business account manager told me WiFi calling would be available by August.

August isn't that far away now! Come on VoWiFi!

What iOS / S22 / Z update will this be tied to (S21 user here with July's security patch updates).

iOS 15.6 RC2 has recently been released meaning public release isn't far off. A carrier update tied in with this release could be possible I guess.

Hi
Just a Curious question from someone who has absolutely no idea.
how will Spark turn on wifi calling on our phones is it a carrier services update.
If I turn on 2 deg Sim WiFi calling switch pops up in settings if spark esim no switch available. Once wifi calling active will a switch appear in settings to turn it on.
Thanks Pete

Yes, providing that you have a compatible device, operating system and carrier bundle.

I hit up our account manager and they said end of Aug for some Samsung devices and then Apple devices will be mid Sept with iOS 16.  Apparently it will initially only work in NZ - Wi-Fi calling from overseas and calling via VPN will be blocked!

I wonder what the "some Samsung devices " be.  The ones that have been sold over the past few months or one going back 2 years??

2Degrees list about 48 Samsung phones so anything significantly less than that would be a failure.

Good list.  If Spark's list is the same then all's good.   Time will tell.

I suspect that Sparks compatibility list will be smaller than either Vodafone’s or 2 Degrees. I doubt that they’d put the effort in for any device they don’t currently sell.

Happy to be proven wrong though.

iOS 16 developer beta 4 (released a couple of hours ago) enables WiFi Calling on Spark in Settings.
