DravidDavid: A single issue?

Hell, I can give you a personal one. This thread is over 70 pages long dude. My interleaving was fixed because of a Telecom rep on this forum. I battled with Telecom on the phone over interleaving for a month. It got sorted here over night when I posted that the help desk was not helpful!

Traffic rules were created to identify packets comming from games being accidentally shaped...because of this forum.
If you read the whole thing (which i doubt you have) you will see what has been fixed and the new issues that have risen within the past three weeks.

Then again, please tell me why the issues I am facing and have so for the last 6 months are not fixed. Telecom knows about the problems, I've laid complaint after complaint after complaint - nothing has been done. You talk about things that don't affect me one iota - when is telecom going to fix the abysmal download speeds? again, I am downloading at 5KB/s a second - how about this great idea; get rid of the damn traffic shaping until it can be done properly. If you can't do something properly, don't use your customer based as guinea pigs for experimentation of new and wonderful ways of cutting corners by failing to provide enough bandwidth for the customer base.

Again, I am downloading at 5KB/s, when is that going to be fixed? or am I going to hear the same spiel about, "well, that is part of the big time traffic shaping' as I was told by a representative at Telecom as a follow up to the complain I lodged with the telecommunications ombudsman.

Also, as noted by a Telecom guy before, this isn't a Telecom forum and all information about issues should be reported to Telecom. Not that that has done much in regards to the current problem, but we shouldn't expect Telecom to make changes because of postings in this forum.

Though they have in the past and they have our thanks for that :) Just hope we can get this current issue sorted.

I've already told Telecom about the situation as noted in my previous posts on this subject; the simple fact of the matter is that telecom doesn't give a toss as far as I see it. If they did they would get rid of traffic shaping until such time that they can actually sort their act out or what they could do is stop being such a cheap skate and provide the necessary international bandwidth required to host the number of customers they have!

Amen.

I had absolutly no complaints up until three weeks ago.  I was super happy with BigTime.  I hope Telecom can restore my super happyness.

As for Ventrilo...It is still dog slow and I time out every ten minutes.

EDIT: Kawaii:

I have three torrents with 20 seeds on average chugging along at 300KB/s
I just tried speedtest.net and I average 7.48Mb/s
Rapidshare (as a free user) I can get max my line on.
Megaupload is the same as rapidshare
I ping my favorite call of duty server (in australia) at 45ms.

The only thing that dosn't work for me is VoIP applications.  It may well be an issue on your end.  Or I am just lucky.

Personally I'm giving them two more weeks for them to fix whatever went wrong or they changed 3 weeks ago, just while I get something else out of the way. Then I will be looking at the options. My one option I'm not looking at, as I am tied to a contract and have liked BigTime until 3 weeks ago, is changing ISP or changing plan.

You could go through the ombudsman and hopefully that'll allow you to get out of your contract easier considering the bad experience you have had.

If you change ISPs and an abundance of happy faces comes rushing through this thread about how absolutly amazing the plan became...How do you think you will feel locked in to a 12 month contract with some other ISP getting the same services as before...Haha.

Lucky, I'm getting 9kB/s to the news groups, but as its peak hours I'm not complaining, I complain when I get that during offpeak ours, at 5am on a sunday morning when nearly everyone else is asleep.

Or when I'm downloading at 22B/s from sourceforge.

Whats weird is that at times when others have terrible speeds, I'm flying, and when they're doing well (like now) I'm very slow. I wonder if there is some switching between where the bandwidth is going to keep some people happy some of the time? Probably not but without info from Telecom all we can do is guess.

Exactly, plus they're held to the contract just like I am, so I'll be holding them to all the promises made in the contract and in advertising at the time we made the contract that induced me to sign it. But we'll get to that in 2 weeks.

The issue is with Telecom - I've gone through the song and dance; reboot this, press that, dance outside under the sprinkler for 1/2 hour - all the voodoo BS that is nothing more than a stalling tactic hoping that divine intervention will solve the problem. I've worked at an ISP and I know the drill, I know the stalling tactics, I know the buck passing routine that these companies use to justify why they don't invest into more international bandwidth.

As for your experience. I don't know where the heck you're located but I am down here in Wellington and the speed is pathetic - it has nothing to do with the server or any other thing that Telecom would like to blame; the problem is clearly Telecom and it is up to Telecom to fix the problem instead of them blaming the customer as they have done so far.

This is absurd. I can't load gmail. I can't log into steam. I can't log on to internet banking. The 10.3 drivers from the ATI website are downloading at 400 B/s. I can't log into msn.

And if I start up my torrents, they run happily at around 200 kB/s. (I'm not running them while trying to do the things I listed previously)

It's like the opposite of what traffic shaping is meant to do.

EDIT: And speedtest.net is giving me 3.8Mbit down, 0.7 up.

I really wish there was an accurate speedtest (accurate for big time, that is)

Yeah this is totally screwed.  I just kicked off a torrent to see what speed it would get and I was getting around 300kbs yet I can't login to gmail, facebook is slow to unusable, everything https is crap.

If it is still an international gateway problem then is it fixed or being looked at?  I don't care if it's a memory leak or what the actual problem is all I want is someone from Telecom to confirm the problem is still present and they're working on fixing it.

Thanks for pointing out the new ATI drivers. I have an ATI card myself so I decided to download it, my results are below:

DravidDavid:

Rapidshare (as a free user) I can get max my line on.

Now that's weird. Even as a premium user, running multiple downloads with multiple connections each on JDownloader, I can't go above 150-160kb/s off peak, 20-40kb/s at peak time (with numerous connection faults). A few weeks ago, very occasionally I would see 800 kb/s on Rapidshare, even at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, but never seen that rate in the last 3 weeks.

Are you using any specific mirrors to get this? I thought everyone was limited to below 200 kb/s for Rapidshare even off peak, going from my experience.

Didn't know that.  So maybe Crucius's suffering through the download made my experience a little better?  in that case...Thanks Crucius!  And if you were downloading the same mirror...It is a different issue to what everyone else is suffering from most likley.
