Bobdn: Holy crap, I did download an episode of Made in Chelsea.

That sounds like a pretty serious fault, I'd get it checked out immediately.

Oddly, my VDSL connection rate went from 52Mbps down to 40Mbps and has gone from DLM 1 to DLM 2. Guess there's a borderline cable somewhere between me and the cabinet (which as it turns out must be a long way away, as I can't find one within several streets of me.)

Actual peak download speeds have also dropped from around 3-3.5MB/sec to 1.5-2MB/sec. Upstream is still 10x what ADSL was so not too worried though.

Yes, I've found that regardless of the fluctuations in my downstream speed, my upstream has remained consistently at 9.

If they can't settle your connection at better than ADSL they'll swap you back for no charge. On my first day I got a 35/9 reading, then it dropped right back to around 15-18/9, then went up again after another week to around 25/9 and now after a month I'm at 30/9. You will need to give it time for DLM to do its thing. I must say, though, a downstream speed lower than your upstream strikes me as a bit odd.

I've had Telecom VDSL connected for about a month now, and was in heaven with the speeds and lack of dropouts (I was getting heaps of those) for the first few weeks, but over the last three days or so it's been awful. I'm not at home right now so can't give you any numbers, but everything feels slower - downloading emails and web pages to the PC, downloading apps and synching services such as weather or the HTC "FriendStream" on my phone...

Is it possible someone in Telecom has switched something off?

Chorus Man end up just install the master filter in the ETP & install the small vdsl port n use the red & black phone wire (I guess) to connect the port.
Didn't pull a new cable to connect from the ETP to the room where the modem is. he said too much work to do, not that easy. Well I guess he don't want drill those massive brick wall.
Then just plug the modem in n call up n get the service switch.

Not bad, now only have to wait for the service to fine tune

When I got my VDSL first installed I was easily getting about 36ish down. DLM has now put me on the 17a profile, and DLM 1 with a new increased line speed of 66805 down and now this is almost the fastest the speed test will get :/

If you have to run heating in winter, you don’t own enough computers.

Well with fibre set at no date as to when it would be where I am I decided to get this in.
With an attenuation of 3.5 on the downsteam and 3.6 on the up stream I'm hoping for good things.
Mind you with a Telecom manhole outside my fence and the cabinet 130 odd meters away I would hope the numbers were good.

Small question, that may have been answered already. But I'll poke it in here anyway.

Just today on VDSL. Prior ADSL2+ attentuation was 12down, and around the same up from memory, maybe a little less or more.
Now VDSL shows attenuation of 14.xdB down, and 30.xdB up. Syncing at 35Mb down/9.8Mb up which seems okay for the first day and speed tests are in line with the sync. But I was wondering why there would be such a big jump on the upstream attenuation? Wiring issue? Nothing to worry about? Something else?

A master splitter was installed, so I took the only two tail types off - one was on the old setup for the phone/adsl2+ and the other on the skyTV unit. The cable guy did know that the sky unit was there, and said to remove the tail splitter. There are other extended jacks around the place (2) but I mentioned this to the guy and also said they were never used (they aren't), and he said they would be fine.

Well, having said it's been slow for the last couple of days, I guess I can't complain about the numbers:

It feels slower than that though - certainly feels slower than it did for the first couple of weeks VDSL was installed...

The increased attenuation figures reported by your VDSL router are expected due to the much higher frequencies in use. You can expect at least 3+ dB increase as the higher frequencies will be subject to higher attenuation than the lower frequency bands used by ADSL2+

After posting my more than acceptable speed test results last night, this morning it's still pretty bad.

So I went around the house and made sure every wifi device in the house was off, connected my PC via cable to one of the Ethernet ports on the Telecom-supplied TG589vn v2 router (which was the "recommended" method for doing the speed test), and here is the result:

Still more than happy with that.

Next, I disconnected the cable and re-ran the test connecting to the router via wifi, and here is that result:

As you can see, it's sh!te. The behaviour of my wife and daughter's iPads and my Android phone suggests to me we're all getting this kind of performance wirelessly. So the problem is not with the Telecom network, or my house wiring, it has to be the wifi connection, right?

When I look at the router, the Power and Broadband LEDs are green - solid on. The Internet LED is green - blinking irregularly, which I take to mean sending and/or receiving data. The Wireless LED is also green - blinking. The manual says this means "Wireless activity, WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK encryption", but I don't think it's blinking in time with any connected activity. It's just blinking constantly, really fast (approx. twice a second) all the time, even when all the wireless devices in the house have wifi turned off. So I'm wondering if this indicates some kind of unusual activity but the router itself that is interfering with the connections to wireless devices in the house, hence the apparent poor performance.

Any ideas?
