Google Play is telling me 'no eligible devices for app install'. First time my year old Samsung phone hasn't been able to install an app. Is that a bug or is my phone really not supported? Thanks.

Hi there,

What version is your operating system on your phone? We support versions 4.1 and above.

I was just reading about this on Stuff. Hopefully Spark will eventually roll it out further than just to BigPipe brand users. Some time ago, when GZ was getting involved with crowd sourcing a router, this was one of the functions I really wanted, to give me a better Lightbox/Netflix experience than I currently have when my daughter is gaming.

Spark and BigPipe use different core equipment so you won't be seeing this on Spark anytime soon. I believe Spark use Alcatel Lucent and BigPipe use Cisco gear so won't port well over to Spark. This is however a good excuse to click the URL in my signature and join up ;)

I also tried the app on my ipad last night, and it said something along the lines of not being a customer. So thats not working either. Cheers.

I posted this feedback via the app a week or so ago but got no response. I'm on ADSL and I have never seen the app do what it is supposed to do. Every time I have it set to streaming and start a download, nperf, speedtest, azure test or anything else, the download saturates the connection and I get buffering, connection loss and stream crashes. I connect at 15Mbps, so would expect to see any download restricted to 100-200KB/s due to the 90% restriction, but they always go 400-800KB/s, like the stream and download are fighting for the full connection rather than the 10% it should be. Same thing happens when selecting no option as well. I thought this might be a timeliness thing, where the restriction isn't fast enough to catch the downloads, but even over a number of minutes with large downloads the downloads never get restricted. I can see in the app the downloads and streams counting correctly in their categories but nothing actually happens to restrict the flow of data.

Also, classification of things is off a bit. Overwatch is classified as "Other" but you can't prioritise Other data.

Yesterday's Stuff article said:

Stuff.co.nz: For the moment, [Spark] is only offering its "Mode Selector" feature to customers of its Bigpipe internet brand. But Spark spokesman Richard Llewellyn said the company hadn't ruled out making the app available to more of its broadband customers, if it was well-received. "If it is a popular feature then of course we'd look at it elsewhere."

At the moment there is no short term plan to jump ship from Spark, but we're starting to think about what we're going to do when UFB is available in our street (supposedly in December), e.g. look at plan prices, keep a landline or get VoIP, etc. If we decide to switch to BigPipe I promise I'll use your link!

These are the same symptoms that I reported with my ADSL earlier in this thread and via feedback.

I have PMed my details to BigPipeNZ a couple of time when requested but not heard anything back.

I'm not that worried as I will be on UFB soon but still happy to help with diagnosing the issue if required.

Hey,

I have had a look at account setup and nothing looks out of place. It might be good if we could organise a real-time test at some point tomorrow. PM me with a time that suits you. Preferably between 7.30 am and 4pm.

Cheers,

Sarvajith

If no one is streaming currently, will downloads get to take up the full line? or will they always be slowed to a crawl

Hi there,

Just so I understand correctly, do you have Streaming mode set?

If this is the case then when you have a priority set we create a ‘virtual pipe’ within your current connection. This virtual pipe needs to be slightly smaller than your actual pipe to allow our system to tell when you are congested. This virtual pipe is ONLY activated when you have a particular mode selected. If you don’t have a mode selected, then your ‘real’ pipe is opened up. So this means if you don’t want to prioritise anything, then you will get slightly better overall speeds by not selecting a particular mode.

In your case if no one is streaming and the streaming mode is ON, you shouldn't see much impact on your downloading.

You can find out more about the app Here

Cheers,

Sarvajith
