I have configured my router to work on the XT network using a Netgear AirCard 320U dongle as a backup. I can connect and browse the web fine, but I can't get inbound port forwarding to work.

I have tried using the APN direct.telecom.co.nz and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

What I notice is that the Modem seems to get an external and internal address (122.x.x.x externally, and 100.x.x.x internally). This makes it appear as if it is acting more like it's own little router. It's does this whether connected to the router or my PC. This also happens when trying the SIM in a different modem (Sierra USB306) and also in my iPad.

But I'm not sure if this is a function of the devices or the XT network.

Has anyone made inbound port forwarding work over 3G?

I have just noticed the same too. I'm asking internally to see what the story is.

Edit: Found out the story.

If you are using a 4G Sim, for the moment you cannot use the direct APN and get a public IP as everything is going via a Carrier Grade Nat (CGNat).

So for the moment if you want to use the "direct.telecom.co.nz" you should use a 3G Sim and it will behave like normal.

This should be changing early next year so that the 4G Sims work the "proper" way.
