Newstalk ZB has just reported that Spark's unlimited data plan has been slashed to $79.95 a month.

If they've allowed for a few gigs of tethering, pretty damn attractive. And I guess attractive to mobile-only users even if not.

Great to see a new round of mobile data aggression going down.

Your move, Vodafone.

Speed reduced after 22GB, no hotspots or tethering.

Noted this wording in the T&C:

What does Unlimited Data mean?

With the Spark Unlimited mobile plan, you will receive Unlimited Talk (NZ & AUS), Unlimited Text (NZ & AUS) and unlimited Data (NZ only) for your mobile. Unlimited NZ data means you can browse the Web, stream content, upload, download and play games. While there are no caps on how much data you use, after 22GB of data usage, Spark will reduce the maximum speed for the remainder of the billing cycle. Tethering and mobile hotspot use is prohibited and unlimited data is for use on mobile devices only.

"Unlimited Date (NZ only)" - huh? So data to non NZ is limited? If so to what limit?

I know it’s slightly different but I have a mate who used over 100gb on the Skinny Direct unlimited plan, and regularly tethers his phone using the data binges and uses 200+ gb of data. He’s never been pulled up or lost connection. So I don’t think they’re enforcing this actively. However, it’s possible that they will start to get more strict on it now that more people will sign up.

And your friend is the reason why we can't have nice things.
