I have a Spark UFB connection with the HG659b modem; trying to port-forward to a server internally but am having intermittent issues with it working. I'm interested in the general opinion of those much wiser than me.

1. Should I persist with this model of router (e.g. try and get replacement from Spark first)? or try something else.

2. If something else? any suggestions of what is robust for a SME where I can port-forward reliably.

I'm pretty sure it is not a configuration issue, as one minute the port-forwarding works, then it doesn't, then I reboot the modem and it sometimes works again. No configuration changes to the server, and I can connect to the server reliably internally.

I'm a bit dubious about simply getting a replacement; as there seem to be some people alluding to this being a bit of a known issue on this model of modem. I have also looked for a firmware upgrade, but there don't appear to be any links on the Spark site I can find.

If not a replacement of that model, is there something else that I can purchase that is going to be more reliable? Do Spark support other modems connected to UFB?

Regards

J

I have seen port forwards drop and all sorts of weird issues from the voda versions of this mode / router,

I  have seen fewer issues with the spark firmware but still has grief.

Do you have more than 32 connections to this device? I believe this is the limit for this  device.

In any case I would remove this device and replace with a Draytek, they just work, if you know MikroTik they have a very good reputation but a steep learning curve I believe.

I believe they do. I seem to recall a tech sent me a list of common non-spark modems and where to find the settings when I called some time ago.

Pretty much any router will work if it supports VLAN tagging, but we only officially support the ones we supply. The parameters you need to know to make anything else work though are real simple and documented somewhere on the help pages I am sure.

(I personally use a Ubiquiti Amplifi - and despite it being VERY bare bones in terms of features, I like it a lot for the display on the modem)

Replace it.

Some IPS's router just wont port forward (or DMZ) all ports reliably

Thanks, I've replaced it with a DrayTek 2925n. Is working a treat; and has a bit more additionally useful functionality too.

The huawei also doesn't allow you to add devices to the port forwards if the device hasn't picked up the ip address via dhcp served from the router. you can manually put in MAC address etc but it doesn't register in the port forwards. The huawei is seriously broken. We have had three replacements for a business from spark, all same issue so it is a systemic issue for the series not a one off router issue.
