This is pretty noob, but nonetheless would be grateful because it'll help me make another post which is difficult to describe without the 1000 words from pictures (couple of screenshots to be precise).

Err, so how can I include pictures in my posts, or is this against forum rules (didn't read it in my brief run through them, although Godwin's law is pretty interesting!).

Make sure you have pictures in a reasonable size (640 width max is good) and host these somewhere. Then just write the post and click the "Picture" icon in the toolbar:

Thanks. Hmm, I'm plumbing the depths of my noobness here. Err, so where is this toolbar?

Just above where you type your posts... Unless your browser is running with Javascript off, in which case there is no toolbar - but then you can manually enter the IMG tag as you would in a HTML page.

Well this has turned out to more bothersome than I thought.  I've got Javascipt enabled in Opera 9.23 but I don't see any toolbar.  Don't see it in Firefox either but here I am using IE, just for this post!

If you or any one has any ideas about why Opera isn't rendering the toolbar I'd be most appreciative.  Thanks!

The HTML editor works on IE and Firefox only. No support for Opera. Check that Firefox has got Javascript enabled.

Or you could just use standard HTML a=IMG tags
Note, you need to include the full http:// as Geekzone thinks it links back to itself otherwise.

This will show you an image of a troll.

This will go back to GEeKzOnE.

You can also make the text massive like this by using standard size HTML tags.

Still haven't quite got the URL to work like it should do: how do I get the image to show up rather than the link? When I was posting speedtest.net results some kind soul kept fixing it up for me, but would be nice to sort it out myself!

Quite right Mauricio it does work in Firefox, just had to turn "change status bar text" on in advanced javascript settings.

If you use the editor and click the image button you just have to enter the URL to the image.

If you are not using the editor, just enter the IMG tag (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_img.asp).
