Hi there

Would it be possible to add a non-google search tool, as other forums use?
so I can search say, just topics, topics & posts, search posts inside a long running thread, AND be able to search just inside a single sub-forum.

Google simple gives far too many irrelevant hits .

I'm going to try and avoid appearing unhelpful, but if you want to search inside a thread, can't you just Ctrl+F in the single page view?

+1 there is alot of great knowledge stored here, but its difficult to find later on using the search

I doubt there's any way we can build a better search than Google. Seriously, there is so much context awareness Google brings to the table. Most "search" in databases are strict and only look for words with no context.

With the exception of searching topics only, I'm thinking it will be possible to use google effectively for all of those. There's a challenge ; ).may not be possible to meet but anyway..

Google's own advanced search is even better than the often used in-your-own-site search bar

https://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en

just ensure 'site or domain' is

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp

and then you can use the rest to do all the specific criteria you need.
Though all this is really doing is filling in the search options that you could very well manually enter yourself, it is very quick and handy especially for specifying fine criteria such as date range, or if you want to help someone who isn't that well versed in search options.

being able to choose which groups/time ranges etc to search on would be great
