Does anyone have the Vodafone Home Hub (Huawei HG659) specs or user manual.

I'd like to know it's feature set - particularly if it has any VoiP ports

Hi Kerrin

We're working on getting more info about the HG659 on our site. It's the current modem/router used for our UFB Fibre and VDSL installs. The main great features are four gigabit lan ports and a gigabit wan port, and wifi up to 802.11ac speeds. There are two USB ports too.

There are two sip ports on the HG659 but they are restricted to Vodafone VoIP services only.

We'll have more public facing details about the specs etc soon.

Some EasyOffice Vodafone business solutions like this can have auto-provisioned settings for VoIP services that are delivered over an ADSL(/VDSL?) connection. A friends business uses it while having free Vodafone mobile calls and was able to relocate out of the local exchange area and keep their business landline number as a VoIP line attached to the Vodafone Station modem (the only big provider that was able to offer a way to do this simply and in one bill).

I'm not sure they'll ever bring out a consumer-grade plan to deliver landline calls over VoIP, as the way things are going, landlines are being phased out altogether and getting replaced with mobiles at the rate mobile minutes keep getting cheaper.

Can anyone who has this router already advise how they find the WiFi on it? We were given a Vodafone Station to use with adsl2+ but went back to our trusty netgear router as wifi devices kept dropping

I have one of the Vodafone Station SHG1500 http://www.vodafone.co.nz/station/ and find the WiFi to be pretty perfect. To be honest it's one of the most reliable routers I've ever used after going with the more well known brands like Linksys/Cisco, Netgear and Belkin for a few years, so I've stuck with it. Currently on a Snap ADSL2+ connection.

I think WiFi may drop for me once a week or so (if that), but it tends to correct itself before I have a chance to reboot.

Maybe try a few different network channels or changing the 802.11a/b/g/n choices?

I went through all the channels possible and even had the Vodafone helpdesk have a nosy also.
We have 9 wifi devices plus 2 on ethernet, stuck with 2.4ghz mostly :(

Wifi is 2.4 and 5GHZ dual stream. I would compare it to my Fritz 7340 in terms of response and range, Also has Wifi AC.

I'd be interested in finding the detailed manual for the Home Hub so I can see exactly what it can do. Particularly around segregated guest wifi network and bandwidth throttling etc per MAC address...

Hey,

Has anyone figured out how to activate the VoIP ports on the HG659? I have the HG556a and it works wonderfully on that after a small hack but haven't found that for the 659 yet.

Would be very cool if it was possible to change the SIP VoIP settings IMO. I've found though, that Vodafone has started to 'lock down' their modems to only be used with auto-provisioned settings and not manual settings. Good idea from a business perspective, but if you want to modify things (small % of users) then not so good.

I'd recommend getting something like a Linksys/Cisco PAP2T, SPA122 or SPA2102 off Trademe, if you're serious about ATA SIP VoiP, far more settings and way more customisable than any router you'll get from Vodafone.

I have a VOIP service that i use for testing (NonVF) and have not had any luck (Given i spent 5 minutes on it and gave up). Just plugged my Fritz in and used it as an AP with VOIP, Works a treat.
