Hi There,

We have a client that has gone with Vodafone VDSL.

The account manager has advised that Vodafone doesn't supply VDSL modems and my client needs to source one themselves from Dick Smith / Harvey Norman.

Is this something new, Vodafone no longer supply's modems?

As one of my work colleague has Vodafone VDSL at home and Vodafone supplied the modem.

Can someone please help?

This is 100% incorrect the HG659 is VDSL, Go back to the account manager and get them to sort it out

My client has already gone back to him and he is still insisting that my client needs to buy one.

He said that if my client finds one he will pay up to $150 towards it to reimburse.......

They give them away... personally I'd avoid the 659 until the firmware has been upgraded (still waiting for that).
But if they just want a basic unit and wont be using the wifi or touching the settings, the current 659 will suffice.

But if they just want a basic unit and wont be using the wifi or touching the settings, the current 659 will suffice.

I was surprised as well first time hearing a ISP doesn't want to give you a modem.

Yeah its only 3 users will be using this so doesn't need to be fancy.
The client does have a couple of laptops so they will be using wireless, but they won't be touching / changing the settings.

Is there a problem with the wifi in that model?

This is now sorted and James is aware which model modem supports VDSL

Lot of reports (inc my own) of Wifi connecting but not allowing external traffic, random drop outs etc. Settings wise, if you use your own DNS (such as Unotelly etc) the router randomly restarts and removes your settings. Sometimes it does it within a day, sometimes it takes a month.... but it will happen ;)

I ended up buying a 3rd party Wifi unit to sort the wireless out.

Huawei have been made aware of the issues and are working with V/fone on resolving them, but when new firmware rolls out, who knows.

The Spark firmware apparently works fine on the V/fone units.

I can see it now. Some poor tech turns up to help granny with her internet and becomes horribly confused when the VF branded router on the outside as Spark branding on the inside.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.
