A friend of mine fell for a Google Docs phishing scam yesterday. As a result someone got into her account and sent out a pile of malicious emails. Nothing particularly unusual there, but today she noticed a 'new sign in' message from Google, and it appears the person who harvested her login details was on an NZ based IP on Vodafone's network.

Does anyone on GZ have any contacts in Vodafone's security department? I know from previous experience it's next to impossible to get telcos interested unless you have a warrant.

Correct search warrant required, You will need to lay a police report and if the police want any info then they come to Vodafone with the correct paper work

I am not sure what you think any carrier could do in this case, We could not hand over any details to end users

18 Using the Service

18.1 Only you or authorised members of your household may use the Vodafone TV Services. You must not use the Service in breach of these terms or in a way that results in you, us, or any other person affected by your actions, breaching any law (including by infringing any person's copyright or other intellectual property in any movie or the Vodafone TV Service). You must not use the Vodafone TV Service in a way which we reasonably believe is illegal, likely to be found illegal or likely to cause damage to our reputation or to breach our obligations with our third party suppliers.

Surely if a phishing scam is being done from Vodafone then the company could initiate an investigation, without disclosing any personal information to the person laying the complaint, and terminate the service or direct to the police.

Perhaps but if a complaint is laid directly with the police then evidence can be gathered before the connection is suspended/terminated. Personally I think its likely that this is a mule PC and not the actually scammer in which case contacting police who can then work with Vodafone should be able to collect more data and hopefully trace this back to the origin.
