Do not assume that when you put in a number port application with WxC that it will be completed by the date and time that you fill in on the form, even if the date & time comply with what the form says (minimum of 4 working days).
I took time off today to cut over my folks phones to VFX (previously set up) believing that the number port was completed. However, when I arrived at their place, the lines were clearly not ported.
I had filled in a WxC number port application form and faxed it through to WxC on 10/04 and set the porting date and time to be 17/4/08 at 10:00am as the form said there had to be 4 working days (I gave them 5 to be sure). I even received a call from them a couple of days later clarifying a couple of points. I thought it was all in train. I double checked with the woman who phoned that it was all in train and would be completed by the 17th at 10:00am, which she confirmed.
I phoned the 0800123456 after determining that the VFX line port had not happened and asked what was going on. The person there advised that the application for the porting was only sent through yesterday and that Telecom have set a date of 22/4/08 at 8:00am.
Now I have to take off extra time and we now have to pay for the old provider for an extra month as our billing cycle ends on the 18th.
The WxC help desk person says that this is hardly their fault as Telecom was the one to delay the porting. However, from WxC's side I would have at least expected a phone call to advise concerning the change in plans as I have now taken time off unnecessarily. Furthermore, I do not understand why they expect that Telecom would hop to it with probably less than 24 hours notice and complete this port. I am not a happy camper at the moment, having effectively lost a half day of leave.
