Long story here

Short story: I think something wrong with DHCP server (Vodafone UltraHub router). DHCP server is ON. Wireless connection is off. Mobile connection is off. No phones are connected.

Structure: vodafone modem <-> vodafone router <-(LAN ethernet)-> laptop. All other devices disconnected from the router(!!!) just one laptop, nothing else. Trying to run the router 2nd day.

Test 1:

Laptop settings:

- ip address 192.168.1.150

- subnet 255.255.255.0

- gateway 192.168.1.1 (obviously this is ip address of the router)

Works fine!!! No problem

Test 2:

Laptop settings:

- Obtain ip address automatically

Works nothing!!! Tested with another computer, same result.

What other settings I have to check?

PS: Spent with Vodafone helpdesk ~45min, useless, helpdesk person was really mean, absolutely unhappy with the services and this is after >15years with them, we started our account with Paradise, with dial-up internet. They asked me to send a technician to check the internet but it will be >$100 charge.

PSS: Helpdesk asked me if I bought a static ip address from Vodafone, the answer was "yes" and he told me I must use it with my laptop(where laptop ip address)

Do you get an IP address when you enable DHCP on the laptop?

Can you get to https://1.1.1.1 in your browser? if you can more likely to DNS than DHCP

Test 2. No I do not get IP address when I enable DHCP on the laptop

Yes, only with static ip address, see Test 1

geocom: if you can more likely to DNS than DHCP

Secure DNS setting is ON, it is Vodafone router setting

Reading your longer story it seems like things used to work. Have you tried the usual reboot and factory reset to get back to a known good state?

In that case I agree with gaddman sounds like the unit may need a factory restore

My Linksys router? its currently disconnected and out of process, problem with Vodafone router, which I'm trying to make work only 2nd day, there are not much settings to change.

If you want to troubleshoot before doing a reset, go back to your working static setup and check the DHCP settings on the router, maybe you disabled it or messed up the settings?

I have NOT touch this router since I got Vodafone internet contract, why its need to reset? I'm using it 2nd day, not much changed there and it works fine with static ip

DHCP is enabled, start point is 192.168.1.2 and end point is 192.168.1.254, review every hour(default is 24 hours), what else you can change there?

There is the chance that the DHCP server is broken it is possible that it's something as simple as a broken config file(which unless you have ssh enabled and understanding of things under the hood it is impossible to fix through the web interface) and it is refusing to start up. By factory resetting it you will at least know it has been restored to what should be a known working state.

No funky setup on your computer? What about connecting via wifi from a phone?

Also a fair chance of some weird bug (I can just picture disabling wifi also disables DHCP). So yeah, reset.

The sound very like I'm thinking, just wanted to avoid the factory reset as I spent some time doing PORT mapping :( and reserve ip addresses for my devices :(

I just saved the router settings into file, its possible, and will try to restore after reset, will it cause the problem again? its might, isn't it?
